http://open-ra.org/

Theres not much to say without clicking the link, basically its a Open Source for both Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Dawn, giving it a huge new graphical look and other cool features

Features that I've noticed so far:

Newer graphics whilst keeping the original atmosphere and look.
Build queues!
Unused voices and such added!
Multiple Warfactories and Barracks are probably more useful.
anking (Yes your units finally gain veterancy)
Diplomacy, team up (even with AI)
Includes Counterstrike and Aftermath units
The filesize isnt that big, from what I remember, the development team took only the core files required to run the game was around 15MB.

Now for some cons;

No music, I'm guessing they'll add it later
AI is a bit dumb
No campaign as of yet or Skirmish.

Its still a Alpha however, so theres no campaign or skirmish yet, but maybe we could get some games going?

Okay, it turns out there is AI, but you have to host a multiplayer game to get it too work. (You can play by yourself) bear in the mind, the AI isn't that great but remember its still a Alpha.

Some more features I noticed;

Ranking (Yes your units finally gain veterancy)
Diplomacy, team up (even with AI)

Zhen and I have had it working, we had a few games of Red Alert. The AI is just really stupid so we need more human players. Tiberian Dawn on the other hand, seems to like crashing instead.

I have trouble getting the AI working against me. I can only team up with them. When I go against them in-game using diplomacy they still don't attack me :(

Zhen fixed that when we played, you'll have to ask her how though, as I can't remember.

I played this a couple days ago, got massive amounts of nostalgiafail, good thing it crashed before I went into a rage-induced tantrum caused by all the good memories it destroyed.

At least RA music is decent (especially the stuff from retaliation, nifty tunes).

I would be able to tolerate this more if it had better graphics, yeah I just went there.

Apparently according to the dev team, they were not supposed to go public with this and the existence of the project was leaked prematurely. Its still unoptimized and in Alpha state. This might be promising in the future i hope.

About the teaming up issue, it turns out that you musnt team up with anyone in the lobby, but instead do so in-game through diplomacy, I'm not sure if the AI can team up with you since its usually fixed, you might have to play around with a few settings. Oh and make sure you have put on a decent map(prefably with lots of build space), otherwise you'll get bombarded with "AI: Can't produce building x" :D but as Alias mentioned, its best if you play with human players rather than AI.

Also there will be frequent new builds every few days according to their forums, so keep an eye out if you're interested. (:

Somehow I doubt that.

Okay, in order to get this to work online, you need to port forward you router (note only the host needs to do this) heres a snippet from their forum:

Quote

Nobody can join my online game!
For others to join your game, you must forward a port in your router for them to connect to. By default, OpenRA uses tcp port 1234. This can be be configured in the Create Server dialog.

Theres also been a update recently;

Soviets have a new unit, the Flak Truck
AI has been slightly upated
Theres music! (Only Hell-March is included right now)
Dogs can no longer bite/attack ground :P

GDI can now build Commando
Nod can now build SSM launcher and Chem warrior
