Well even if you don't agree with the opinion a particular film's trying to express, no one's forcing you to accept it. It's meant to get you thinking. Or just entertain you. In my case, I keep it as the latter.

No, because I don't like movies slaming their opinions into my face with the subtlety of a sledgehammer wielded by a raving lunatic. the intelligent media knows that people don't grow from having everything slammed into their heads. They grow from thinking themselves to it.
Yeah but movies like this can include great script, great acting, great effects, great soundtrack, so it can be easy to put aside the preachiness you complain about. The Dark Knight was one of those movies. As was Inception.

Frankly, I don't see how The Dark Knight can be considered preachy or pretentious - it's not really trying to tell you anything much other than that there are shades of grey between good and bad, and that humans have pretty frail minds most of the time. Inception just confuses the hell out of most people I know because they're not used to being taxed in a cinema, and for that it was a fantastic piece of cinematography.
Anyone care to explain to me how The Dark Knight slams opinions into my face?
For there can be no death without life.

The Dark Knight and Batman Begins were both fantastic representations of Batman. Take a look at Batman: Gotham Knight as well (A series of short cartoons loosely based around the events between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). Christian Bale's portrayal of batman himself was fantastic in all of these movies. Dark, mysterious, terrifying, but fair. The hand of justice. Although this massive cult following of the Joker that sprouted after the death of Ledger did annoy me intesely, Heath Ledger portrayed the joker brilliantly too. (Although to an extent I think I still prefer Jack Nicholson's version)

I think it is you who takes Batman too seriously.

Nothing much to see, though judging from the shot at the end it looks like Batman will be getting his arse kicked.

Don't read this if you don't want spoilers, as this is quite likely to be the outlying plot of the film.
