My rent isn't much more than that, but what is so suprising is that ALL your bills COMBINED are that cheap. Electricity and Gas have gone up a huge amount in the UK, but even before that they weren't that cheap!

Unless you're running a seedbox, anything over 10mbit for upload is pretty useless.

Gaming uses a ridiculously small amount of bandwidth, as in around 10-30mb per hour for 4 player strategy to around 50-60mb per hour for 16 player FPS.

As CJ said, your location (and by extension, ping) is by and large a far more important thing than your line speed.

Both matter, when I used to play CoD 4 with my study mates (who used to live in the same street and had the same internet) all of us had pings below 10 ms. This was excellent because nobody ever had any lag in any shape or form ever, and that played very well I can assure you. Especially in fast FPS games every ms off your ping is felt.

Indeed, ping is of no direct relation to line speed.

In fact, ADSL2+ is in fact worse in the ping department than regular ADSL is. Of course, if you're running fibre like Chyros is that doesn't really matter.

As suspected, replaced the 10-year-old splitter and the throughput pretty much doubled. Considering our distance from the exchange, this is pretty decent.
