THERE IS NO SINGLE PLAYER.
Well there is a single playet but not in the traditional sense.
You play alone, but you are stil at the mercy of the infamous server. The game lags, because the servers are so damn stuffed with alot of ppl playing. No matter do you play alone or with friends, you end up playing online.

As a sorc, my pattern of thought basically goes like this..
The way to judge an upgrade in this game is "Does it have Intelligence and Vitality? If no, break it down for 1-2 nearly useless crafting mats. If yes, does it have more Intelligence and Vitality than what I'm wearing? If yes, put it on. If no, break it down."
What happened to crushing blow, open wounds, chance to do X on hit, chance to cast X when hit, chance to freeze, prevent monster heal, fire/lightning/poison/cold absorb - and that is just a small sample.
I mean just compare the sheer amount of unique items in D2 and how varied they are - http://classic.battl...s/uniques.shtml
In comparison to the boring mediocrity uniques are in D3 - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/
Honestly, I have little desire to play currently unless the items are overhauled.

Is it really good enough to justify all the fuss that's happening about it, or is it just because you guys liked Diablo 2 so much? And would it be worth getting for someone who never played the previous games?

If you know someone who has bought it, ask them about their guest passes - you get two passes that allow friends to play a decent-length "demo" of it basically. I gave mine away already to my housemates but there's plenty of fish in the sea.

As it is, this game - while fun to play - is my new biggest disappointment after DA2.
I still remember with great fondness the items I've had on nearly all my D2 characters. When you found a unique it was a real high, especially if it was one you could use - and because the items had thought behind them, an item you found at level 26 could last well into the 40's for example -
I've had 3 legendarys drop for me in D3, sure I had an initial rush in seeing the colour drop, but once I looked at them - erugh! Even if I had been able to use it, or it had had the right assortment of stats, in 2 levels a blue would be better anyway :(
I would post a screen of my D2 sorc, but for some reason it doesn't come out right, probably due to my widescreen mod.

Thanks for the offer mate, but after seeing Ion's reply I think I'll stay away from the game. Mainly because I'll never buy a game with such a crappy and not even working DRM
