We are still working hard on Xen and BMDM, but instead of making you wait we are giving you Black Mesa as soon as it's ready! We're doing our best to help bring the immense vision of this project into reality, and we are very excited for what the future brings!

- You can now Download the Black Mesa Soundtrack, courtesy of our very own Joel Nielsen, at the very generous price of whatever you want! Enjoy and share!
- In the near future you'll see our Website, Wiki and Forums all taken down temporarily for renovations.
- On September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core. We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.

i think the torrent download is the fastest by the way
1/3 so far.
also, is this version standalone or does it require HL2? (or any source engine game like some other mods).

All it requires is the Source SDK, which is free on steam.
It is not really free (or at least wasn't when I downloaded it), you needed at least once source game to have it (with TF2 not counting unless you had actually bought it before it became pay2havefun)
TheDR 14 Sep 2012
No, it is free. When TF2 got released as FTP they made the SDK free as well. I know this because it was a point of discussion on the PVK2 forums as it meant we could start saying that it's a free to play mod.

How? You get them around the same time you got them in Half Life.
No you don't;
In HL you get the crowbar just before the elevator that falls down the shaft killing it's occupants.
In BM, you get it in the server room after crawling through the vent from the reception area.
In HL, you can get the pistol from the guard who dies reaching for the medi-station, or use your crowbar on the first guard to get it earlier.
In BM, you don;t get it till you enter that optional area after the Houndeye's first appearance, where you can get some grenades.
Alias 15 Sep 2012
You can get the pistol from the first guard, he can die just like he does in HL. There is the ammo in the locker room as well, same in HL. As for the crowbar, you get it a full two minutes after you got it in HL. Nothing to be mad about.

I fucking love it, but that was a given really.
One thing I don't like - you have to crouch jump for EVERYTHING! normal jump does sod all, I just fint it a little annoying is all, oh yes and ladders have killed me several times, but thats more a thing with how the source engine handles ladders..
Oh and maybe its nostalgia, but normal seems harder than it usually would be, but I like that

yeah i noticed that too, the normal jump is really more of a little hop. i wonder if that was intentional?

Pretty cool job they did there really, better than most big game companies do nowadays anyway ... It should've been cooler if it somehow released 4-5 years ago.

'Finished' it, bloody amazingly well done! If you haven't explored things, do so! Soo much frisson to be had while playing, plus lots of those oops/clever moments
