I and some friends were discussing this and we came to a fairly unanimous decision. Was wondering if other people agreed. Discuss. if you want other games added say so, but Mario has to be the player (main) player character and it can't be a Kart game for obvious reasons.

I voted 64 because of all the technical innovations it brought with it (First free-roam 3D game of its time as well as a very intuitive UI).

(Oh, and wrong forum)

Isn't this a bit like asking "What is the best James Bond game"?

If you were to ask that, I'm pretty sure the results would be fairly unanimous :P . With this I'm expecting much more diversity. See, although no-one has voted for it yet, my friends and I agreed the best one was Super Mario Bros. 3, as it played so wonderfully well, introduced that great new overworld map, fun bonus games to keep you going along the way, and those saveable powerups you could use before entering a level which was quite tactically interesting. Of all the Mario games I'd say 3 is the biggest innovator and perhaps the one with the biggest impact as well - it even spawned a whole cartoon series, and the movie Wizard is essentially about it.

I like all the games, but if I were to pick out two it'd be SM 64 and Galaxy 2. I'll hand it to 64 of course.

I'll vote for Sunshine. Not because I think it's the best game of them per se, but because it was the first game (and Console with the GameCube) I bought with my own money, and holds some of my fondest memories.
