Trudat.

Was just noticing, if the Americans didn't compete in the pool they would have less medals than the Brits!!? Exactly half (as at this post) have come from swimming events. Given their size and funds that is a rather worrying statistic.

You would have thought that the Americans would have been more competitive in a broader range of sports, given the funds they spend on it and the large population base they have available to them. Winning 30 medals in the pool is impressive, but without that discipline they are performing below average for a country of both their size & GDP.

Considered the amount of overweight/obese people they have, it might be understandable |8

My comment wasn't supposed to be a veiled invitation to have a dig at America, something that happens too often in this thread, but more to consider their predisposition to gaining success in swimming.

Presumably because some of their best talent is in that discipline? I'd want to bring China into the equation but considering how differently talent is discovered and honed in both countries I'd be out of my depth very quickly.

It's more a question of why their talent is in that discipline. Granted a large amount of the medals have come from one man, but not all of them! Guess there must be a lot of swimming pools in the States that kids have access to?!
