Tbh they did filmify the books really well, a lot of characters are missing but they are quite truthful to the books so far.

Eh now, let's not exaggerate, stuff like Sam sending out the ravens or killing a certain someone in front of the other soldiers instead of just a single wildling were completely disregarded, even though those played a good part in the development of Sam's character in the books...
