I find it much better than Torchlight II was, so far at least. The loot, abilities and levelling are all the most satisfying I've tried ever since Diablo II. The music, voices and visuals are also very good for an independently developed game.
Much recommended, at $7.50 it is a steal too.

I question the general assumption that i am inherently deficient in the area of grammar and sentence structure

Unlike TLII this at least tries to innovate on the formula to an extent. I don't think it's as replayable as TLII is as there is only a single character and not really any grindy end-game, but to be honest that isn't what I play Action RPG for. It has lots of challenging fights, with very decent loot drops (I'm playing on the harder difficulty, which does seem to make it more enjoyable).
I've played about 3-4 hours so far, and it achieves everything it sets out to do, and it does it very well (particularly the companion system, about goddamn time someone coded a proper ARPG companion with decently customisable AI).
It also seems that me getting on the boat a bit late is a good thing, seems most of the bugs that seemed to plague it closer to release have been ironed out. It does have a few flaws itself but gameplay wise I can't fault it in too many areas, and it looks gorgeous too.
Regardless, it's less than $10. In the land of expensive that is like lunch, or two beers or three coffees. Well worth the money, just like TLII was. But I must say I do prefer this over that.
