East-Berlin, unter den Linden, people are walking past flags and ensigns, where Lenin and Marx are still on a pedestal. And everyone is working; hammers and sickles, while in parade march the watch is being relieved - 40 years of socialism; much has been achieved in that time.
But what's the point of that welfare state if there's walls around it, if you have to be afraid and careful with your opinion? What's the welfare state good for, tell me, when someone who deviates is denounced to be insane? And only the birds fly from East- to West-Berlin, aren't whistled back or shot down. Over the wall, over the Iron Curtain, because sometimes they want to be in the West, sometimes in the East.
West-Berlin, the Kurfuerstendam, people are walking past porn and peepshow, where Mercedes and Cola are still on a pedestal. And the neon adverts that lure glitteringly; come dance, come eat, come drink, dome gamble; that's 40 years of freedom; much has been achieved in that time.
But what's the point of that freedom, without a house, without a job? So many Turks in Kreutzberg that can barely exist? Okay, you're allowed to demonstrate, but with your back against the wall, and only if you've got money, freedom isn't expensive. And only the birds fly from West- to East-Berlin, aren't whistled back or shot down. Over the wall, over the Iron Curtain, because sometimes they want to be in the East, sometimes in the West. There was a machine in either Quake 4 or Doom 3, I don't remember well since both games feel almost the same, anyways... That machine which changes the atom structure of the matter and produce water, fuel and oxygen.
