Funny you say that but it leads to one of my favourite factoids - for Sydney, and most of the other large cities by absolute numbers (i.e average milimetres of rain per annum) we have almost double the quantity of rain as London, and about 30% more than the few Dutch cities I looked at, it's just instead of dreary daily dark drizzle, we maintain momentous monthly monsoons usually just over a day or two every month.

Well it's pretty much because 95% of the population is within 50km of the coast (and so due to the water cycle) we actually get a lot of rain there, the entire middle of the continent and a few of the capitals (Adelaide, Perth) are drier than the rest, but the others are all a good deal wetter than most of inland Europe.

That said, of course, the middle of the country is obviously bone dry and the few populated parts of the interior are (as expected) drier than the coast by half or more.

As well, since we (on the eastern coast at least) are affected by the oceanic currents that cycle every four years or so, we switch between being wetter than the average to drier than the average.

So ultimately there's a lot of factors that go into it.

Ever since I've lived within 10km of the city centre I've seen no venomous creatures at all, only if you have a detached house in the suburbs or you live in the bush would they be a regular occurrence. It's a bit of a meme we play up for the tourists/foreigners too.

To be honest from what most of my international friends tell me the one thing that is very different (obviously cultural differences withstanding) that they can't get away from is how much greater the UV is, here if you go out for 15 minutes in the sun you will get badly burnt, but in Europe (and especially Asia/Americas where it's more polluted) you can happily sit outside and sunbathe for hours without issue. No matter where in the country you'll have that issue. The critters are a non-issue, tbh.

Having experienced English, Dutch and Australian rain I can confirm that Aussie rain is batshit insane.

My auntie cancelled a trip to the cinema (indoors!) because it was raining. It's so heavy and it lasts all day. Although it was warm when I was there which was lovely.
Dutch rain was colder but just as heavy. However, it came in such random and precise short bursts it confused me (the weather apps are so precise. Tom was like 'it's going to rain in five minutes so we'd better get inside').
English rain is consistently constant, drippy and boring. Rain feels like the default which is why Brits get so excited about the sun.
