I thought that the first area was a substantial part of the game but it was basically a tutorial level. Then I ended up with three hundred different alchemy ingredients and too much to do, I didn't konw where to go or what to start off with. It was pretty overwhelming.

I personally played it that way. I plan to "play" it for real again at some point.

I had intended to do that, but there was too mucht to see and do. It was too much game to do even that.

You could have finished it instead of watching the series Better storytelling. Especially Hearts of Stone expansion, was amazing.

Or alternatively, if you liked the series, you can just watch the game story(without the gameplay bits) on Youtube in parts, like series

They haven't named him AFAIK but he's the guy what conjures up the fire from his fingertips. Very nice abs and pecs. They show him shirtless briefly.

It sounds alien and made up. Nobody knows about Dutch except Dutch anyways so there is no need to create a language when you can simply pick an existing, not well known one
