AFAIK most backup generators are diesel.

I think it probably is. Oil doesn't really "fail" so it makes a good backup energy source.

I can't see how this won't escalate further. Russia will be economically fucked during and after this. So only logical conclusion for them would be to take as much as they can out of this.
Only hoping when NATO vs Russia starts, it won't go nuclear. Maybe, just maybe this time generals will stop the madman before things get out of hand.
