Dark is fine! Even if you just added a colour overlay/hue with a few variations. A few more reds, a few more blues. There are many pallette generators online that can throw out a bunch of complementary hues.

Yes, after i "finished" it and didn't look at it for a while, i can see where i can improve. Definitely needs more values.
But compare it to another Azathoth drawing i did a few years ago:

I think it definitely looks much better and has loads of depth and detail. I think the colour stands out because the rest is good!
