Language models break words and partial words down into tokens (basically just an ID). There are certain words/phrases that make ChatGPT do strange things. One theory is that there are certain words that have been turned into tokens but were ultimately removed from the training data, so the language model knows the word exists, but has no context for what it means.
Some of the 'words' seem to actually be usernames from a counting subredit. The usernames appeared a lot because they counted to 9,000,000+, but they decided to remove the subredit from the training data because it was just numbers.
