Guns and the anticipation of there being guns is so stupid. American police are both brazen and terrified.

Not just America (the guns part is, I guess), but police here were so brazen and terrified of a 95 year old with dementia 'walking menancingly towards them' (with her walking frame, no less) that they tasered here (and she died, who would have thought).

Definitely less frequent here, but still happens.
