Yeah the midnight mosque whining noise wasn't great, the times I've been to muslim countries. It's OK with ear plugs, but that's not something you want to wear when you're in your own home.

I think we're not the only ones though. I remember when I was on holiday in Java, and you could hear five at the same time from our hotel room, but one of the imams was clearly not in the mood because he went through the prayer about three times as quickly as the other guys .

Pretty sure you're making up those times. I've never seen evidence of them.
