It's a rain radar that shows you how much rain is going to fall. Look at the reference lines for light, moderate and heavy, and compare it to the height of the actual peak.

For reference, 1000 mm of rain in a year is pretty normal, so at 50 mm per hour, that's gonna gonna count up quickly.

We us this app and others like it constantly, it's a necessity in the Netherlands. Unlike the UK, we don't have long-lasting rain spells, but short and very intense showers. Everybody uses apps like this to try and dodge the showers. This was easily the biggest peak I'd seen to date though :xD: .
