There was only 1 twink. The rest were girls and an old guy that was an alien or something; I lost track of that part of the story.

Ah, it's one of the pixel art ones. That's a lot better, actually. Never liked the look of newer Final Fantasy games.
Supposing I wanted to give a JRPG like that a go, one of the pixel art ones. Can be old or new. Which one should I try?

I've only played 1-5 so far, but out of those I'd definitely recommend FFV.
The combat mechanics are fairly deep, and it had one of the most satisfying boss battles (especially final boss battles) out of any Final Fantasy game IMO. It really put my knowledge of the job system to the test.
If you don't have any nostalgia for the original release (which I'm assuming you don't). I'd recommend the pixel remaster: https://store.steamp...NAL_FANTASY_V/. It has a variety of modern quality of life features.
I know VI is fairly beloved though, so I wouldn't be surprised if I ultimately recommend that once I've finished it.
