Rewatching Orville at the moment. It's so damn good. 
It's easily the best modern Star Trek series, and I'd argue it even does some specific things better than the Star Trek.
They'd better pick it up for a Season 4 at some point.

I'd say some episodes are defeinetly up there with TNG.
The Family Guy style humour can be off-putting for some... I personally don't mind it too much, but it doesn't really add much and they thankfully tone it down after the first few episodes, and especially going into season 2.

Problem with Star Trek type sci-fi is that all aliens are way too humanoid in shape. Just uglier, mutated humans.

Those still count as humanoid. Bipedal, two set of eyes and mouth shape very similiar to humans (yes we share similiar traits with most animals but it is because being evolved in this planet)
