About 90% of the kangaroos we saw were dead though. The amount of roadkill in some parts of Australia is absolutely staggering. The short bit of Outback we drove through had literally hundreds of dead animals by the roadside, the second-most roadkill of any place we visited (most was Kangaroo Island, which we renamed Massacre Island).
Which is odd since I haven't been driving a truck there for almost 2 years now

One noticeable effect of all the roadkill in the Outback was that there were huge amounts of wedge-tailed eagles around. Those are pretty big and really cool, in all fairness. Normally these need vast territories to sustain one eagle, but the roadkill was so bountiful there that you could see them everywhere. As soon as the roadkill stopped, so did the eagles.
