Very exicting I know, a massive thread necro.

But I think I just found the "Real" Battlemaster.

It just happens to be a Pakistani thing though (in use with Chinese tanks)

http://en.wikipedia....ki/Al-Zarar_MBT

I really wanted to get this thread back moving since I doubt starting a new thread whenever I find something new isn't exactly great either and this thread does contain some hard work...

Lock if you must, but I'd rather you not. D:

(First post of thread not edited till an agreement on how BM-ish the Al-Zarar is)

I'd hate to go against Ravzen, but I reckon this is a pretty close match for the BM - see what you think:

Meh, I think the recon drone is just a scaled-down MQ-1 Predator UAV. The General Power unit is an RQ-4 GlobalHawk though.

After a much needed rest and a spur of the moment thing, I have gone back to this thread and updated it. Now features all basic tanks of the GLA.

thrax's scorpion is an American M113 with a turret on top, probably a 75mm cannon or a 90 mm, can't really tell, but the chasis is definitely a M113
"Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a drinker... and a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself; he doesn't like that. Not... one... bit. So, me watching - he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me, and says, "Why so SERIOUS?" So, he comes at me with the knife, "Why so SERIOUS?!" He sticks the blade in my mouth, "Let's put a smile on that face! And... why so serious? -The Joker (The Dark Knight)

Not offence, but the V.China BM has a slightly rounder turret while the Type 59 is slightly flattened and egg-like - the T-54 which the Type 59 is derived from is also used by Juhziz and should theoretically have the same stat if that is true (but it doesn't...does it?) Also, the T-59 series has unevenly spaced wheels while the Type 69-III/79 has evenly spaced road wheels like the in game Battlemaster.

It it also the base for the Type 88, wich should theoretically be Kwai's BM Mk.II, which like the Type 88, have an extra set or road-wheels compared to the Type 69-III/79. Stats wise, this would explain why the BM is still capable of damaging modern tanks.

It all fits perfectly - and besides, The T-54/55 is old, the GLA might want it, but China certainly has enough money and manpower to produce some tank that's not a relic from the Cold War on a massive industrial scale.

I never played the Shockwave mod, but I assume basic Scorpion is the same in the mod as it was in the original game. It is my opinion that the GLA Scorpion for Generals is based on the French world-war-2-era AMX-38. See for yourself:

I dunno, I need a second opinion on this. I reckon the Italian one looks slightly taller, like the Generals Scorpion tank. The French one doesn't have that secondary bump on the chassis.

The closest match for the ZH Helix is the Ka-31 model (NATO reporting name 'Helix-B') as the nose shape is slightly different and closer to the in-game portrayal. While it was the basis for ZH's Helix it is so not any equivalent to the way it's portrayed in-game though; the Helix models are ship-based helicopters born and bred for anti-submarine warfare, or in the case of the Ka-31, airborne electronic warfare and use as a radar picket. They can't really carry a platoon of infantry, never mind a heavy tank, and probably wouldn't survive the recoil of a gatling cannon. And 'tough' or 'well-armoured' are not words I'd use to describe them. 'Hardy' perhaps, but not 'tough'.

Wikipedia said:

Sperry's Vigilante was a prototype 37 mm six-barrel anti-aircraft Gatling gun designed as a replacement for the Bofors 40 mm gun in US Army service.[1] It was primarily intended to arm a new self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG) to replace the M42 Duster. Mounted on a lengthened M113 armored personnel carrier platform it became the T249 as a complete vehicle, the gun itself known as the T250 to the Army. In the late 1950s the Army decided that any gun-based systems was outdated, and canceled further development in favor of the MIM-46 Mauler missile system that also failed to enter service. Sperry later revived the Vigilante firing NATO-standard 35 mm rounds for the DIVADs contest, but lost to Ford's M247 Sergeant York.

I presume that is also the real world counterpart to Ironside's Vulcan tank. If you've gone through the Shockwave part of the forums (which I presume you all have at some point) there's a thread which I've written the backstory for the Vulcan tank and does mention this.

I don't think it would be the basis of the Gatling tank, given that this unit has a completely enclosed turret, of American origin and the gun is at the centre of the turret rather than attached to the top, which makes it look more like the Vulcan tank.

Also the KA29 Helix A. Both are way too small to truly represent a Helix.
