Battlefield 3 Discussion

For all intents and purposes, I don't want BF3 to be a (direct) COD competitor.

I really hope BF3 can be modded or at least have a map editor.

I need a poster of that!

Does this mean that they'll be using Frostbite or something _new_???

"DICE sets its sights on Call of Duty".

Sigh, just go back to what you were doing before DICE. Anything after BF2 is horrible because you're ruining your own formula trying to copy others.

Maybe it just means more game modes other than Conquest/Titan/Blow-up-MComs. I've always wanted a BF-deathmatch <87

AFAIK its Frostbite 2. According to the link on this thread, they are adding even more destructibility. I don't expect too many visual upgrades since the consoles will lag behind if they do that IMO.

More destructibility? Like houses collapsing 'normally' instead of scripted like they do now? <87

No idea what it means specifically. To quote from Kotaku,

Quote

Visually, Battlefield 3's art has the same vibe present in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and its Vietnam expansion, but it's the decimated environments that may offer the biggest clues to the next Battlefield game's big selling point. GI mentions a few new technical features, including animation techniques borrowed from the EA Sports guys and an "exponential leap in destructibility."

Battlefield 3 ships Fall 2011 -- includes jets, prone, and 64 player multiplayer!

Eh, seems alright I guess...

Hmm, apparently BF3 won't support Dx9, and by extension, XP. The 'new' Frostbite is being developed primarily for Dx11.

looking forward to details in the coming months. I wonder when the beta would come out.

Tbh I agree. I think BC2 would've been better if it would be either more OR less like Call of Duty.

Might also be getting some of this:

Quote

• Feel the Battle — Feel the impact of bullets and explosions, drag your fallen comrades into safety, and mount your weapon on almost any part of the terrain. Battlefield 3’s cutting edge animation, spectacular visuals and real as hell battle gameplay attack your senses and make you feel the visceral warriors experience like no other FPS.

Signs are saying they might be returning to their winning formula for real this time.

Mounting weapons on the terrain? Like, bipods finally become useful? =o

They had only about 1 year maybe 1.5 fully concentrate of BF since they worked on MoH and BC2 earlier. I wonder how well they would implement all this. It could be another classical EA flop.

Shit is going to go down. Hope they dont fail like BC2 (even tho I enjoyde BC2 to some extent, it just wasnt as battlefield as it couldave been)

But seriously another on-fire dude holding an M16 as their cover? Someone from the art team needs some inspiration <87
Quote

TheDR's Photo TheDR 04 Feb 2011

As long as they make sure it's not like BC2 and more like BF2 we will be fine (I like BC2, but it's not anything like BF2). Bigger maps, more players, Jets and prone, thats seems to be all people want <87

I hope they give us tools to make mods and our own maps this time.

Yeah Battlefield should be Battlefield which means big maps and lots of players and a focus on teamwork and squads. And VEHICLES.

And of course the cover art looks like more of the same. I wanna see some gameplay vids before judging the game tbh.

DICE...I should smack those idiots into the wall for that.

With each "EPIC WIN" blog information I see the more I am convinced its gonna be crap (and may I note that I actually had high hopes they would make the game the way its supposed to be)...especially the rage inside me when I saw the cover art

I suspect fakery is at hand.

They didn't use an age certification on this official box art however suddenly they use it on this one and it's an 18? I'm not falling for it.

The vehicle on the left of the box art looks like a LAV III.
