The Kickstarter Thread

SquigPie's Photo SquigPie 04 Apr 2012

Alright, since more of these projects spring up daily, I though we'd have an official thread for all Kickstarter related gaming (and possibly other) projects.

First of all, Wasteland, the very first Sandbox RPG, the first RPG with moral dilema's, and the game that Fallout was a spiritual successor to, is finally given a sequel. The game has beaten its funding goal (900,000$) by 1 million, but if it hits 2,1 million, they'll bring in Chris Avellone (of Obsidian).

Then we got a new one. Shadowrun, one of the oldest and most famous pen and paper RPG's, is getting a new game. It's only just been set up, but since it made 150000 in a few hours. I think it'll hit its goal.

Then we also have The Banner Saga, I haven't read far into it, but it looks like a beautifully animated turn based RPG/Strategy game about Vikings.

The Dead Linger, a Zombie survival with massive randomly generated worlds (which apparently are truly worldsize), with some other stuff: http://www.kickstart...linger?ref=live

Wasteland 2 finished it's funding, ended up with over 3 million dollars (since they also recieved money from PayPal). Which means Day 1 modding tools and a shitload more content.

Also, new project, Grim Dawn (which has been in development for some time, but very slowly due to no funds), by the team behind Titan Quest.

If you ask me, it looks like what Diablo 3 SHOULD be. http://www.kickstart...nment/grim-dawn

Somehow I smell the fall of the Publishers, if they keep screwing games like they did with ME3 and C&C...
Kickstarter is the new game development fever.

Also, Grim Dawn hit 100%. Some crazy guy also said he'd donate 100k. Apparently he's a big shot in some IT company. Dev's said they'd gladly accept it, but they wanted to hit the 100% funded before doing so, since they wanted to know they had alot of poeple backing their project. Rather than one serious fan with alot of money).

Really liking this. Loved Freelancer, and still upset that I can't find my CD. But $200k by Nov? It's a big ask.

Why not? It's over halfway there and it's got 29 days out of the whole month left.

Also, its just a supplementary Kickstarter, it has already made something like $750,000 on the website.

Yeah, I've backed it (I'm a patriot, after all). But I'm pretty sure they won't make the goal, they're asking far too much for such an unknown project.

If you've tried out Nitronic Rush, then you should be familiar with the premise of the game.

They stuck War for the Overworld on Kickstarter!

http://www.kickstart...ld?ref=category

This is quite interesting, as it's been on for a while as a wannabe Dungeon Keeper sequel that's been in development for quite a while, but apparently they've taken it to the next level now and gone businesslike. There are only 4 days left as of now, btw. It will feature all the things a good DK game has; a campaign, multiplayer and a sandbox mode, and even Peter Molyneux (the creator of the original DK1) has endorsed it massively:

http://www.youtube.c...d&v=JsRRzr0eBKc

Like I've said earlier, I've seen quite a few DK clones come and go, but this one is the first that actually seems like it could pull it off. Miraculously, even the release date is on my birthday :xD: .
