What the hell is wrong with humans now?
Maybe i am missing the bigger picture, when i was in year one (1st grade for my american friends)
I was reading year 3 level books. Maybe that is why Im just a little smarter than the village idiot.
My Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is 140

Same goes for you Mr Squig.

Let's just try and keep this a bit cleaner - if you have something to say that is relevant to a topic here, say it, but beware the spam as this ain't SYD.

Egyptian politicians call for Gigimo Artificial Virginity Hymen kit to be banned

Egyptian politicians have demanded that an 'Artificial Virginity Hymen' kit be banned in the country, calling it a "mark of shame".
Posted Image

Artificial Virginity Hymen is distributed by a Chinese company called Gigimo and sells for about £19. It consists of a pouch which is inserted inside a woman's vagina before sex and leaks a blood-like substance when broken during intercourse.

Its website says, in broken English: "No more worry about losing your virginity. With this product, you can have your first night back anytime... Add in a few moans and groans, you will pass through undetectable."

Sheik Sayed Askar, a member of the conservative Muslim Brotherhood political party, said: "It will be a mark of shame on the ruling party if it allowed this product to enter the market."

"This product encourages illicit sexual relations. Islamic culture forbids these relations except within the confines of marriage.

Abdel Moati Bayoumi, a prominent Islamic scholar, agreed. He said: "I think this should absolutely not be allowed to be exported because it brings more harm than benefits. Whoever does it (imports it) should be punished."

However, the product has met with some support. Marwa Rakha, an Egyptian blogger and activist for women's rights, said the Artificial Virginity Hymen "sticks it in the face of every male hypocrite" in an Arab culture that condemns women's sexuality but turns a blind eye to male promiscuity.

The Gigimo website offers shipment of the product to all Middle Eastern countries – and, by alphabetical chance, its default destination is the profoundly illiberal Afghanistan. It is not advertised in Egypt, but a reporter played an Arabic translation of the Chinese advert on Radio Netherlands, sparking the controversy.

In a region where premarital sex is not just frowned upon but actively condemned, with so-called honour killings not unheard of, being able to show one's virginity on one's wedding night can be vital.

A surgical method of reconstructing a hymen can cost up to 1000 Egyptian pounds (around £115) Many women seek it out, despite the sum being prohibitive for the poor, for fear of reprisals.

Egypt is considered more liberal than many other Middle Eastern states. Nonetheless, a 2005 UN report estimated that 52 out of a total 819 murders in the country in 1995 were honour killings.

Creepy product is creepy.

Might get "STD"s from that blood-like substance  Damn, creepy is creepy.

A Buddhist bank robber has had his request for his cat to have visiting rights to him in jail turned down by a court – despite his plea that it is the reincarnation of his mother.

Peter Keonig, 46, is serving five-years for armed robberies in Werl, Germany.

He went to court this week demanding the right for his cat Gisela to be allowed to visit him in jail "because she is my dead mum".

Buddhists believe that people come back as other animals after death. He said: "I know it is mummy. She looks after me just the way she did. I need to see her like other prisoners see their wives and children."

But the court turned him down. "While we respect the religious freedom of individuals, the accused has not been able to furnish proof that his deceased mother has been reborn in a cat. Therefore, the request for visiting rights for the feline is rejected."

The court did say he would be allowed to write to the cat.

In the Gunma prefecture of Japan there sits an elaborate statue of the Buddha housed within a community hall. From a distance the intricate statue seems to be covered with thousands of gems and jewels… until a closer look reveals that it is actually composed of tens of thousands of dead insects! The statue took the artist over 6 years to create, and while it might be the creepiest religious icon we’ve ever seen, we admire the artist’s incredible use of natural, biodegradable materials.

Inamura Yoneiji, a 89-year-old local of the area, created the statue in tribute to the souls of the insects, most of which are beetles. Talking about the statue, Yoneiji says “For children in the years immediately after World War II, Japan was poor and there was little entertainment available, aside from catching bugs. However, every bug would eventually die after being caught. By making a statue of a Buddha from their dead bodies, perhaps their souls can rest in peace.” And how much more peaceful could a statue of Buddha get, with the bodies of bugs extended into a new life to pay homage to Buddha.

After years spent hunting for the buried remains of prehistoric animals, a Canadian paleontologist now plans to manipulate chicken embryos to show he can create a dinosaur.
Hans Larsson, the Canada Research Chair in Macro Evolution at Montreal’s McGill University, said he aims to develop dinosaur traits that disappeared millions of years ago in birds.

Larsson believes by flipping certain genetic levers during a chicken embryo’s development, he can reproduce the dinosaur anatomy, he told AFP in an interview.

Though still in its infancy, the research could eventually lead to hatching live prehistoric animals, but Larsson said there are no plans for that now, for ethical and practical reasons — a dinosaur hatchery is “too large an enterprise.”

Dinosaurs and Chickens are thought to be closely linked, because of evolution, and evidence in the genes of birds.
Feathers and scales are made of the same material, and it is thought to be easy to modify the gene to produce scales instead of feathers.
Its all very sciency, and I don't think going into detail would help anyone here :)

The insect thing, well, that makes me feel a little sick D:

A MAN horrifically injured in a motorbike crash now uses a remote control to go to the toilet — after being fitted with a BIONIC BOTTOM.

Father-of-two Ged Galvin, 55, was given just hours to live by doctors after he was "ripped in half" by his fuel tank when a car pulled out in front of him at 45mph.
He suffered massive internal injuries and had to be fitted with a colostomy bag until surgeons performed a complex operation to rebuild his backside.
The docs attached electrodes to strategically placed nerves — operated by remote control — around his bottom.

Ged carries the palm-sized remote in his pocket and simply presses a button to activate his bottom and go to the toilet.
The IT project manager from Barnsley, South Yorks, said: "When I want to go to the loo, I use the remote control.
"It's like a chubby little mobile phone. You switch it on and off, just like switching on the telly."

The horrific accident happened on October 16, 2005, as Ged was riding his Kawasaki 750 near his home.
A car pulled out in front of him and the force of the collision sent him flying 20 yards down the road.
He suffered a detached retina in both eyes, a fractured pelvis and vertebrae, and broke his left foot, right leg, two wrists, and an ankle.
Doctors expected him to die and his family staged a vigil by his bedside.
Ged said: "I can't remember anything about the impact but the people behind me said I never stood a chance.
"I just pounded into the car and did a dead stop at 45mph."

Incredibly, Ged recovered after 13 weeks in hospital and 13 operations, including having steel plates fitted in his leg and 4in screws in his pelvis.
But two operations to control his bowel movements failed.
He was fitted with a colostomy bag — which collects waste from an opening in the abdomen — which doctors said he would have for life.

Ged said the embarrassment of the bag eventually led to the breakdown of his 30-year marriage.
He added: "The doctors did several operations to repair the sphincters in my bottom but they didn't work. They told me I'd have the bag for life."
Ged refused to accept the problem and contacted Professor Norman Williams at the Royal London Hospital.
And the bowel specialist carried out an operation in the summer of 2007, where muscle was cut from above Ged's knee and pulled back to his groin.
Ged said: "I thought that in these days of modern medicine surely there was something they could do. They'd mended everything else. Why not this?
"The operation changed my life and gave me my pride and confidence back. I feel born again, like a new man and because of the remote control I can lead a normal life again."

Ged is now enjoying a new relationship and has ditched his motorbike for a Mercedes.

A 22-year veteran kindergarten teacher in the Texas Bible Belt could lose her job for refusing, on religious grounds, to give fingerprints under a state law requiring them.

The evangelical Christian, Pam McLaurin, is fighting a looming suspension, claiming that fingerprinting amounts to the “Mark of the Beast,” and hence is a violation of her First Amendment right to practice her religion. Her case is similar to a lawsuit by a group of Michigan farmers, some of them Amish, challenging rules requiring the tagging of livestock with RFID chips, saying the devices are also the devil’s mark.

The latest case is the first in which a teacher is refusing fingerprinting on religious grounds, the woman’s lawyer said. The U.S. Supreme Court has yet to decide whether the First Amendment is implicated in fingerprinting, especially at a time when states, local governments and civic organizations are increasingly making them mandatory for anyone wanting to drive a car or coach a youth basketball team.

McLaurin’s lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency cites various passages of Revelation, the final book of The Bible:

He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand and on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.… Then a third angel followed them saying with a loud voice — if anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God.… He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

Her attorney, Scott Skelton, said his client believes that the computerized fingerprinting, in which her fingerprints will be stored in a database, is the mark addressed in Revelation. The teacher does not believe that it is merely coincidence that Revelation says only those with the ‘mark on his forehead or on his hand’ will be able to buy or sell, since only those teachers who comply with fingerprinting requirements will keep their jobs, he said.

“This law prohibits the free exercise of her religion,” Skelton said in a telephone interview.

The Big Sandy Independent School District, where the woman teaches, is located about 100 miles northeast of Houston. Wayne Haglund, the school district’s lawyer, described McLaurin is a “valued member of the faculty and one of the best teachers we have.”

“The school district’s position is fully supportive of Mrs. McLaurin,” Haglund continued in a telephone interview. “We’re caught in the crossfire. We believe her religious beliefs are sincerely held.”

Haglund said the Texas Education Agency informed him it would deactivate her teacher certification if she does not comply. She has until Nov. 7, Skelton said.

Texas lawmakers approved the fingerprinting measure in 2007 in a bid, Skelton said, “to catch somebody with a criminal background or a history of preying on children.”

“She’s willing to undergo a background check,” Skelton said, “just not fingerprinting.”

Mind-blowing sex :D

Quote

An American woman suffered a sudden attack of amnesia after having sex with her husband.

The sudden loss of memory, called “transient global amnesia” or TGA, is caused by pressure in blood vessels in the brain, and can be triggered by strenuous activities, bowel movements, or – commonly – sex.

The 59-year-old woman, known only as Alice, had the worrying experience after she and her husband Scott had sex last August. She suddenly, albeit temporarily, lost all memory of the last several years and the ability to form new memories.

After sex they turned on the television, which was showing the Beijing Olympics, and she asked: "Is there an Olympics?"

Scott told CNN: "I saw that something was wrong, so I asked her, 'OK, what day is it?'"

When she couldn’t answer, he asked her to name the current President, to which she replied: "Bill Clinton." Scott called an ambulance and she was taken to hospital, where it was initially thought she may have had a stroke.

However, neurologists were soon able to diagnose TGA, a relatively common experience in the over-50s.

Dr Louis Caplan, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, said: "[Sex] is actually a well-known precipitator.

"One of the things people have done to look at transient global amnesia is to look at frequency of various precipitants and sex always comes out as one of the most common."

People with a history of migraines and severe headaches are more prone to TGA.

Although her memory has otherwise returned fully, Alice remains unable to remember the act of intercourse that triggered her attack. However, it is likely that she enjoyed herself.

Dr Caplan said: "It usually is after climax that [TGA] develops."

In an unexpected twist, a firefighting aircraft in Portugal ended up contributing to forest fires when it was damaged and had to dump fuel before landing, Portuguese national accident investigation agency GPIAA has confirmed.

The aircraft, a Beriev Be-200 twinjet amphibian appears to have hit treetops following a water-scooping operation from a lake in northern Portugal, receiving damage to one of the engines, which had to be shut down.

The crew were forced to dump fuel, which worsened fires that were eventually extinguished by firefighting helicopters.

A Vietnamese man dug up his wife's corpse and slept beside it for five years because he wanted to hug her in bed, an online newspaper reports.

The 55-year-old man from a small town in the central province of Quang Nam opened up his wife's grave in 2004, moulded clay around the remains to give the figure of a woman, put clothes on her and then placed her in his bed, Vietnamnet.vn said.

The man, Le Van, told the website that after his wife died in 2003 he slept ontop of her grave, but about 20 months later he worried about rain, wind and cold, so he decided to dig a tunnel into the grave "to sleep with her".

His children found out, though, and prevented him from going to the grave. So one night in November 2004 he dug up his wife's remains and took them home, Vietnamnet reported.

The website carried a photo of Van with the figure of his wife, which is still in his home.

The father of seven said neighbours did not dare visit the house for several years.

"I'm a person that does things differently. I'm not like normal people," he was quoted as saying.
