im not particularly fond of rap but i dont dislike it, i think their are a few good rappers and rap songs out here. :chilldead:

But I highly dislike rap, and it was an overnight change.

I was never refering to you Machairi.
And belive it or not, its just that way. At least its here in Germany.
Before the Rap was spread out like it is now, I was able to walk trough the Streets without Comments like
" Aý yo, Bitch " or " Youre Music Sucks ".
At those Time´s I never realy spoke to them, and they just Insult you because they got nothing better to do.
And when you get them when theyre alone, its a Complete Diffrent Story ... then our Wannabe Ganxtas are quiet like Mice when the Cat is there.

I know alot of People wich listen to Rap and are not " Idiots ".
But I also know alot of People wich are, so if you felt that I was refering to you, then you misunderstood me.

Pretty much the same. The idiots here are ravenous. They constantly yell at you and everything. Not to mention at school I'm surrounded by them. And I can't say I've met a person who listens to that music and isn't a chav.

I've noticed that... but IMO you don't see it as much where I live. Its still there, but its moree rivaled by other music genres. But there are the preppy wannabe gangsta's in my Pre-IB classes...

Rap is cool. Gangsta Rap is the one that sucks. There are so many old school rappers that spoke about real things and not just glorify cars and chicks with big butts (the 50 cent and his gang are doing). Coolio, Mary J Blige, and many more from the hip hop/RnB/Rap genre have made amazing and thought provoking music but its the damn wannabes who have fucked up the scene with the glorification of the gangsta style.

I listen every type of music despite my favourite genre is electronic music . I even listen Hard Rock sometimes , all I need is to hear good melodies . I don't care what they say inside the song since I listen songs in foreign language .

I even like some songs of Snoop Dogg ^_^

That's what around half of Atlanta sounds like.

The other half is like:

Personally, given the two majority um...dialects, I guess...I'll take the first one. I listen to rap, but not anything like exclusively. But I don't really listen to the old school rap y'all are talking about, I listen to DJ Unk, Young Dro, Ludacris, Eminem, Lil Jon, Lil Scrappy...that crowd.

But yeah there are definitely some songs that are just so annoying that I wanna punch the damn radio every time I hear it again. "This is why I'm hot" being one of em, and "I wanna F*ck you" being another. Like, seriously, the only Akon song I like is "Don't Matter."

Here in Brazil if I say I hate Rap people call me racist

But then I reply that I like Reggae. Those same people then usually ask me "What is Reggae?"

Anyways for the record, I listen to all kinds of Jazz, Eletronic and even the most insane kinds of metal. If it's got a good beat and good lyrics I'll very likely enjoy it.

Yeah, I hear ya dude. Genre doesn't really mean that much to me, because there's always gonna be individual songs that are cool as shit in each one.

People think I'm weird because I listen to celtic music alot, too, and calypso/reggae. I'm scotch/irish, and I was born in Florida. Celtic music is in my blood, and calypso/reggae/stuff with alot of steel drums reminds me of "home." Why is that weird, y'know?

For some odd reason I like little or no music, some 80's songs, One or two Rammstein songs (Sonne and Frau Frei), even a few Georgian (medieval with chanting and stuff) makes, but I just don't like Rap or Hip-Hop, I just don't like the beats. Gangsta rap is the stuff that I hate and will always hate until I die. I'm divided on country songs though, Rascal Flatts or whatever is just a whiny bastard, while Toby Keith is actually a good singer. So I'm really divided on what I like.

Early 90's rap was okay I guess...I do have to admit that there were some songs I still like today, namely Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio or Jump Around by House Of Pain. Later, some Eminem-songs were okay as well, but all this Cars-Chicks-And-Cash-kind of rap is pissing me off. It's repetitive, it's distasteful - atleast in MY ears - and it's idiotising the youth, atleast here in Germany.

I personally, do like some rap/hip hop songs. But it depends on the song. I wouldn't say I like a song just because it fits into this such and such genre. I listen to anything that I like the sound of. This includes metal, rock, latin, techno, blues, jazz, rnb, country, etc.

I say leave rap alone because I think there are some music in that genre that are decent. We shouldn't label and entire genre as bad. Hey, every tree has its bad apples.

Rappers are musicians too. They gotta make up stuff that suits the sound of the beat and everything. I know, I've tried it. It's hard.
The only part about rap I DON'T like is those that glorify bad things such as drugs and all that. I also dislike annoying beats because they repeat or loop during a song and become all the more annoying.

Basically, rap has it's goods and bads. But, don't label the entire genre as bad.
I DID actually have the sig in question in my signature space for a while and it wasn't to bash the rap genre. It also said "If you listen to real music." Which I did, so I placed it in there. I only removed it because it was creating the same image as everyone else and I couldn't trust that people would read it the same way I did.

Anyway, that's just my contribution to this thread...

Now what irritates me about music genres is the fact that I like teh following (in no particular order)

Opera
Jazz
Rock
Broadway

But 3 of them I'm called weird for. Jazz, Broadway, and Opera. Why are some genres "normal"?
