Calm down, just because we/I/whoever don´t like some parts of the game doesn´t mean that we dislike the game as a whole.

The colorful units are good as they are. The reason it isnt gritty is because than it would just be another RTS game which tries to look realistic.
I guess you then don´t have any problem to name even one modern RTS with a Sci-Fi setting an realistic graphics.

Starcraft was always cartoonized but gritty at the same time. Just look at the Terran faces and portraits in SC1. Actually everything is directly the same proportions, design, everything, as SC1, just with brighter colors. I agree that they need to use a more washed color palette though.
EDIT: Also what the fuck did they do to the poor siege tanks? :(

Ingame in SC1, battlecruisers hardly resemble this at all. The reason SC2 battlecruisers don't look like this ingame is, I presume, because they have this broken-down unproportional representation like in SC1.
Hm, guess it all comes down to weather one sees SC1 graphics as representing it´s design or just a means to an end ´cause more "realistic" graphics wouldn´t have been practical back then.

I think you can see why this comment pissed me off:

Meeh, was hoping for a real Starcraft II, not some Starcraft 1.5 + WCIIIx0.5 ...
Don't act victimized now just because I jump to defend the game I love when you deliver a smartass comment as if you have completely turned it down despites only seeing it in the pre-beta stage and about 2% of the content.
Sorry but no, i can´t see it. I´m talking about what was shown to us, which is SCII´s graphical design. All three sides are shown meaning that their design is fix by now and won´t change much. Even having seen only 25% to 50% of each side is quite enough to judge about their main graphical characteristics.

Maybe you need to relax too, knight of the anti-hype war order?
Naah, our
AHWO usually focuses against a german gaming magazine, so we don´t really have any capacities left for rambling on about just newly-announced pre-beta games.

Oh well. At the present time these are my worries:
- Protoss needs some flesh and blood units revealed soon or they'll be a gold-and-blue scrin imitation. And those giant walkers and the mothership are a blow under the belt...
- Too slick and colorful graphics.
- Blizz may be too scared of changing the game in any major way.
