Please tell me you're not going to completely erase this piece though. It has a fantastic fantasy quality to it, and the faceless human(oid) on the left makes me think this is set somewhere in or during the WWI era (unless of course, that's a Spaniard in Conquistador armour). The rider sort of reminds me of the movie Atlantis, at least in the way he's drawn and the aura around him. The creature he's riding however, because of the glowing eyes, makes me think World of Warcraft (he's got a mount!). The drawing itself has an enveloping atmosphere to it, which, if that's what you were going for, you've succeeded. Speaking of "auras", is the rider supposed to be wearing some sort of war mask of some kind?

well, the original idea of the painting was to show a guardian of the forest, slaying some raiders, trying to steal some valuable bark of those ancient trees.
the guardian himself would be supported by the spirits of fallen warriors from his tribe (that's where the mask comes from, also a halberd, a bow and some more amor, obviously not shown in the current version).

I will probably start that painting later again, with another scene and more dynamic.

but for mow the next project is allready on my mind and I can't wait to paint it :D
I've got the feeling that I'll get it right this time^^

To avoid cliches and over-used phrases like "well that's your best work yet", I will simply tell you that your latest venture is magnificent. Of course, one can not simply express the gravity of this latest work in one word, let alone the thousand that it is worth (okay, the many thousand that it deserves). I am reminded of the Golden Army from the second Hellboy movie. The forged golden clockwork meshing tirelessly in mechanical progress. Even though I doubt the cane-like weapon the figure wields has a benign purpose, it does look like it could function as a gentleman's walking stick. To be more correct though, I suppose I should have labeled it a gentle-robot's walking stick. |8 Be that as it may, I no less impressed by your latest work. Well done IPS, well done.

thanks a lot guys!

@nuker:
I glad the concept expresses the thoughts behind it :P
infact it's supposed to be the warmachine of a god king and since he never (or at least really seldom) presents himself to his peaple personally, it's his common appearance.
However I left it with relativly less pomp because such a big machine for itself is absolute unique in that world.

and because I was diligently today here comes the next artwork:

I feel honored :P

well, start with an exact sketch, a rough color sketch, or a shading sketch (whatever you preffer)
after you got that, simply correct every detail you mislike, till you feel it's detailed enough.
another important point is to set a focus, that can be done with details, color or shading.

but in the end the painting is only as good as the idea behind it, so you should spent the most time thinking before you start.
for me, I needed one day to draw the painting, one week for the sketch and half a year to get the idea behind the whole thing.

I hope that'll help you in some way. :)

I can't let this piece pass by without a comment. You set a new level when you sketched and posted your "stately mechanical man", and the same can be said of your latest work. I do like how you've mixed 3 styles into one. The teutonic knight, as seen by the Halberd/Pike weapon, the Spartan as denoted by the helmet (with a hint of Spanish Conquistador) and general appearance of the armour, and the Samurai as denoted by the rather ornate left shoulder. By mere mention, these styles may not seem to work together at all, no matter the time periods between them. However, with the way you've piece-mealed them together, the design and end product is quite fetching and impressive.

there are two tips I forgot:
play arround with the prush types! what I mean is you can simply add color (standart style), or you can draw shaddows and colors only,
means you can paint a shading sketch and easily color it without ruining all the shading or the other way round.
and the other tip, never paint on a white background! never!!

@nuker:
If you paint you often don't know how much of your toughts are in the end deliverd by the painting, to hear what was in fact was deliverd really helps to improove the work.
(that's is also the reason why I often give short or no description for my paintings in the beginning)
so please keep doing that, you can't imagin how thankfull I am for that! :P

for that one it's a concept for a royal guard.
he wears a ultra heavy armor with an attached pliers arm, to rip the opponents armor appart and simply to scre the shit out of pesting insugrents.
in the other hand he wields a halbert gun, it has a barrel attached to the staff, however it's a muzzleloading gun so it's only there to have a one kill advantage over your enemy and/or a small rage bonus.

@Camille
well, there are allways too sides^^
but if you look at some games today you can clearly see that some guys have "economized" there work by neglecting the idea... and that simply doesn't work out. >.<
