I can't tell you who I am
but seen my kind
on the streets before
We are many and keep you safe
Don't believe the lie(s) from the others
All it takes
is your outstretched hand
For you see
I come bearing a gift
They told me you'd want it
The tiny box
with a broken cross
Go ahead and look inside
there's nothing to fear
but everything you wished for (to run your fingers through)
I must go now
there are others I must visit
No I can't tell you what's inside
but I'm sure you'll want it
There's a dozen others
waiting to be opened
Goodbye

Here's another piece for my readers:
Today, Was Yesterday But There's Something You Should Know.....
A year from now
when you look at this face
this space (for rent)
You'll see all that you've left behind
all that you're missing
and you'll realize it was all a dream
and nothing's quite the same
when one's eyes are closed
I built the cross you now carry
but I'm the one dying
I'm the one suffering (under the weight)
A year from now
you'll sit watching
You'll sit laughing
at all the times we twiddled thumbs
and locked eyes instead of lips
We're just a fleeting fancy
a passing muse
and a dancing daylight phantacy
You're just a day from the edge
and I'm a year from sanity
We're a month from spoken phrases mentioned in passing (and started with conclusions)
And you're a year from forgetting to dream (again)
We're all a year from reminiscing

While your style may not lead directly to a story, the frame created by some of your darker poems would make an excellent base for a story within the current competition.

Even with the framework, I'm afraid it would sound too much like what happened to me and not something truly fictional. I'll think about it though mate, thanks .

A joker is a joker is a joker is a joker (why so serious?)
We can be mysterious (can't we?)
So we can travel down the lane
Be careful
for you see
there are elements that we can't be
Pick a card
any card (I don't care)
I see hearts and you see spades
but there's royalty and peasantry
roaming about this maze (oh we'll have to fix that won't we?)
One is one
and two is five
Straight lines are fictionary
Visionaries weave twisted lines
and masses flock directly for them
Black is color for the thoughtless
Thoughtlessness is apathetic
a host given to carnal betrayal
I should hope you locked your doors tonight

Charade
Charade
Oh let's have a charade! (isn't that what we're doing now?)
It'll be like a masquerade
And we can hide our masks
Tilt back our flasks
And you, you can be the disease
I'll be the charade
But wait, I have a better thought
Oh let's switch!
Let us switch and then
You be the charade
and I'll be the disease
It's much more fun you see
to infect
rather than make people think
Wouldn't you agree
If you only knew how mad I really was

A shape can be held
but can it last the night
For a test of time
is a trial for nine
only a stitch will save
eight remain
and I'm the one
the one that dances alone (somewhere in the dark)
Slowly spinning
ever grinning
at my awkward placement
Your fingers were always kind
but your eyes lied (even when I felt fine)
and my hands never could tell time
Spare me the details
and I'll ignore your makeup running
It's not about us anymore.....

Enjoy:
20 Feathers
Perhaps I shouldn't have said those things
No, I didn't know what I was doing
We seemed so happy
at least that's the facade we gave
I thought we were ready for anything (but I guess I was wrong)
Whatever you do
don't send that message
the one your eyes envision
How that note pierces my heart
and cuts my soul (oh, I'll never know)
But now with my shelves bare
I can see the window
and the scenery isn't always so pleasant
I wish it was a rainy day
I wish it were not today
Oh, how I wish I were somewhere else
Now that I've disappeared
and died to you
I'm free to explore the lonely stares
of listless shells coming my way
Your eyes, I miss them
Come here pillow, my faithful friend

Peach Bottom Sound
Loose be the dogs of war
Their cages sprung
like the mouths of politicians
and I
dancing amid the falling fallacies
Do ponder at length
for the errant visions
of a broken hourglass
Like rain do they fall
but no comfort cometh
For this land is wrought
with malcontent and listless masses (calling from the bottom)
So how do you fix
a wobbly machine
With delicate air
and special care
but not with ham-fisted frets
Can you keep a tune
with your hand in a blender?

I can't choke back these tears
Everything I once treasured
I've lost forever
Taken by so few words
You had me at hello
and all the while
you had thoughts of leaving
All I saw was what I wanted
Too blind to realize
and too dumb to know better
You'd break my heart
with the very thing I wished for (how could you?)
I can't even trust myself
for what is trust
without a heart
No longer is my heart whole
But I fake it to numb the pain
It's much easier to fall asleep forever
when you dream of happier times....

And So We Dance
Swaying to the song of yesteryear
Amongst the gilded faces
and empty yards of fabric
Our eyes fixated
Our feet fleeting
and overhead the moon shines (your eyes sparkle so)
Take care not to close your eyes
You seem a bit sleepy
but the night is young
and so are we
The music is calling
for us to dance away
Will you hold my hand one last dance
and offer your lips to tell me sweet neverminds?
I'll follow if you'll lead
and we can make this last forever
even if our hearts never will
