You know what I think the gaming industry needs to start doing?

I had this thought when playing Dark Reign the other day... AWESOME game, but quite old... A modern remake of this game with only minor changes (Eg. better graphics, more voices, rotating buildings) would be so very awesome.
I can think of a handful of games that could benefit from the same transformation: Total Annihilation, Earth 2150, the 'classic' FPS games like Doom, etc... I can't see anyone taking it up anytime soon, but it'd be awesome to see things like "Dark Reign 2007" and "Total Annihilation Redux" hit the shelves.

Dark Reign was a very good game, imagine how the Mobile Shockwave Generator would look in todays Graphics?
Mobile Forces, I would love to see a Remake from that Game.
I still dont know why it never got Popular, way better than Counter Strike ...

Another example of remaking an old game and updating it with modern game mechanics is Tiberian Dawn, a promising mod for C&C3 which wants to recreate C&C1 in the new engine ENTIRELY. They call it classic mode: Everything, even the stats will be like in the 90's and the only new addition will be build queues but they also plan another mode, Enhanced, in which modern gameplay mechanics will be added to make the game like TD if it was made today. I'm looking forward to this and since the project seems to be quite stable, it might even be completed some time.

However, simply recreating the old games 1:0,9 won´t result in enjoyable games in most cases. Game developers may be creating tons of soulless, boring pieces of junk these days, but still, gameplay has evolved in the last decade. Copying games of which some have been made more than a decade ago will result simply in a flood of hopelessly outdated shelf warmers.
Also, it´s the boring recycling of the ever same gaming situations, the refusal to include innovative elements into games, that makes modern gaming so unenjoyable. Simply dishing out old games again won´t change that...

Played a shump on my friends DS, very Raiden-esque, freaking awesome graphics for a handheld, and very simple concept,,, fire your weapons and the occasional superweapon, dodge bullets, kill stuff, pick up bonuses. win!

Well apparently it was because the weapons were not balanced properly and you only had a couple of weapons out of the whole arsenal that were actually useful to you. Whereas Counter-strike is bagged everywhere for being imbalanced and all that but people will still play it because of it's fast-paced appeal.
I, personally, would like to see a remake or sequel to the NOLF series.

Well hey, Lara Craft was designed specifically with sex appeal in mind, so you can see the mindset developers have. Somehow, I don't think that will change much. However, I support you on this one. I would like to see women in games that are at least attempting to appear realistic. i.e. proportionately as well as attired.
