For those of you who might be familiar with the world of racing, and all of the racing greats, Colin McRae is certainly among those at the top.

Helicopter crash kills Colin McRae.

In 1995, he was England's first rally champion.

I only knew him from some late 90's racing game which I never played but I guess this is a great loss for racing sports nonetheless...
May he rest in peace.

Man was a legend, always throwing his car around, after a huge roll "it was just a roll". In love with racing and a source of hope for British drivers, we can win. Also a great ambassador for Scotland. Sorely missed.

I didn't know him, but R.I.P. anyway. It is ironic though that a rally driver died in a helicopter crash.

I've heard of him, my condoleances go out to this family :(. Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time series died too :(. Not that I was a big fan but it's still sad when such a thing happens.

I can't believe I'm late for this.

Unbelievable. A piece of world history has just died, violently, in a helicopter crash. He won the World Championship for the first time EVER for the Brits. Unbelievable.

I wish I'd followed rally closer, because I've seen some of the races and he was amazing. It's just really sad to see him die, when a new driver (this time for the F1) has made British racing history recently in much the same way Colin has.

Shame, as a rally driver, he was one of myIdols, and I was pretty shocked to hear it.
Its another one of those Steve Irwin things. You spend your whole life toying with death in a certain way, and something completely unexpected comes and kills you.

Ironic that he should die in a helicopter, but sad none the less.

Five deaths in that crash, and all quite young people. A terrible tragedy.

What a shame. He didn't have to die. Colin McRae was one of the best rally drivers ever and his name shall be known throughout the rally racing world.

Oh, and I had a dream once to participate in the World Rally Championship. If I can't be a successful meteorologist, I can always learn to throw a car around at 45 mph in mud and snow. :P

If you want to become a decent rally driver, learn the Scadanavian flick and take a chapter or two from our Scandanavian brethren while you're at it :P . Or, just stick to desert racing and do either the Dakar or the Baja 1000.

I remember seeing and hearing about Colin McRae rally games. I actually found this bit of news while checking out a radio controlled car forum, and I thought with our broad base of members, that some of you would like to know what's up in the racing world. Apparently a lot more of you than I thought either knew about him or of him, which makes me happy. What doesn't make me happy is that this tragedy affected so many lives at once (an entire family) and it took with it a racing legend. In comparison, this is like the Baja racers losing Rod Hall, the Monster Truckers losing Dennis Anderson, or dare I say it, F1 losing Jacky Ickx. Truly a man that will be missed, but a legacy that will not be easily forgotten.

What pisses me off is how the hell a rally driver that drives that fast is going to end up on helly crash.. Life's a bitch, and then you die.... :wahhhhhaa:
