Hi.

I have a little question...

Which of both railguns shall I use for Tiberian Apocalypse?

This one (Realistic)
Posted Image

Or this one? (EA Style)

Defenitely EA style, especially as the realistic one isn´t realistic.

My money is on the "realistic" one. EA is too fancy. "Realistic" looks like a beast I wouldn't want to be in front of. It looks heavy duty and serious.

I am thinking of making the ES style one thhe normal guardian cannon (with a light particle blaster) and making the railgun upgrade being the realistic one

The rails of a RG are usually embedded into the barrel. Even though EA´s version is admittedly too thin, the realistic one lacks proper track for the projectile and the rails are too broad to allow for an effective and focused propelling of the projectile.

Also, EA´s simply looks kick ass. :)

Appreciate the technical point you make Golan, but there is just something about the "realistic" design that says railgun to me. Ea's version is more aesthically pleasing, no doubt, but it justs seems light and wimpish in comaprison. The block appearance of the first model just seems more military and phsyically more possible. I mean the Navy's test railgun is an 80' long lump of concrete!

Maybe Ea's version would do well as an XT faction, say in Halo or Starcraft, but the "realistic" one looks GDI to me.

Tbh I prefer the non-realistic one. It's a fictional game and unless you are making a realism mod I'd go for a more appealing and less realistic design. You have the option to go a bit wild with designs so why not :).

I like the squared-off look of the "realistic" one. If you're thinking of having a railgun upgrade, then yes, keep the realistic one as the upgraded model. The EA one lacks size, and to go along with Hunter's thoughts on barrels, the bigger the better :) .

I'm putting in my couple cents and saying the realistic one looks better, I just like the design over EA's imaginary one.

EA's for the asethetics and it looks more "modern". Don't ask me what I mean, it's hard to explain.

Well nevermind. Compare an AK-101 to a G11.

EA's definitely looks like it would fire a projectile or a laser, but not a "blast of energy" you know?

just remember that real Rail-Guns require alot of power, and one long barrel to get the shot up to speed. Plus the barrel needs to be thick, since a round moving at such a spead will heat the barrel up pretty quickly, either that, or you have such a delay between shots to give the barrel time to cool off so it doesn't melt. And actually yours is really a MAC, since something is needed to get the round moving in the first place, it would be appropriate to have an ejection port for spent shells. But beyond that, nice models, can't wait to see something like that in action.
