It may have been passed over by the Canadian Army in favour of older but decidedly more conventional (and better protected) Leopard 2A5 tanks, but I still haven't found a cooler-looking piece of fire-support weaponry that the M1128 Stryker Mobile Gun System.

It really sucks that the CF never got the MGS variant for our LAVIII's, I can't recall who it was that had it canceled and that same person tried to get the LAVIII with Tow Under Armor(TUA) and the Multi-Mission Effects Vehicle(MMEV) variants canceled too, but failed thankfully or at least from what I can gather.

I'm not exactly up with Canadian defence procurement, but I seem to recall from something I read about the MGS that the reason its purchase was replaced with the Leopard 2A5 was because conventional tanks, while slower, way more expensive and with inferior firepower, are much better suited for the missions that Canada's ared forces are currently undertaking, namely Iraq and Afghanistan. While an M1128 would probably be better than a 2A5 for sole national defence, they're probably less versatile for overseas service. Still, the MMEV with its ADATS missiles looks like a capable vehicle, and is probably an excellent choice for a military that, like that of my own country, can't afford a specialised vehicle for everything so instead gets good-value multi-role systems.

Some more military stuff for your viewing pleasure (I really have too many pictures, don't I?):
Hurrah for the only military in the world to come up with the genius idea of an air-launched ballistic missile! Yes, that's right folks, a big hand for the United States Air Force AGM-48A Skybolt ALBM, with B-25 Stratofortress for scale:

From those same brilliant minds springs another device of unparalleled wisdom - the AIR-2A Genie Nuclear Air to-Air Missile!

Intended for use against Russian bomber formations and even nuclear warheads on descent, someone seems to have overlooked the fact that even if you kill those enemies about to drop nukes on you, your country will still get showered with fallout! Well, it probably seemed like a good idea at the time...

Of course, there are some things the Air Force does well; take strategic airlift for example.

That's a lot of C-17 Globemaster IIIs about to drop an armoured division on your head.

Roll up, roll up, for aviation's most bizarre creation - the Ekranoplan:

Utilising wing-in-ground effect, which is a property whereby reflected air will almost double the lifting capacity of a wing travelling within a few metres of a surface, these weird craft were invented by the Soviets as an extremely high-speed transport craft for use on the Black Sea and similar locations. China has also built them, but with a more combat-oriented role in mind - the Lun-class Ekranoplan carries 6 huge anti-ship missiles but is limited to coastal waters, and only then on calm days.

Look! It's the Superweapon General's Humvee from the next patch!

Oh, alright, so it's not a Vulcan - it's a GAU-18A. But who cares, right?

They're old, but 'awesome' almost seems too delicate a word to describe BAe GR.7 Harrier VTOL/STOVL Attack Aircraft:

No, it's not a Dragon Tank, it's a U.S. M67 Patton Flamethrower variant. The mod team would probably throw a fit - after all, they must have stolen it from China! Grrr, who suggested transferring faction bonuses...

And here's another photo, this time of a U.S. riverboat using a napalm hose as well. You'll never guess which conflict these photos were taken in...

Torpedoes were developed in the last years of the 19th Century, yet they're still a devastating weapon in naval warfare as this photograph, the only released image of testing of the Mark 48 Heavy Torpedo on a decommissioned Australian frigate, shows:

And now back to missiles. One of the largest ever constructed, the United States Titan II ICBM used deadly hypergolic fuels to propel a warhead of ridiculous size all the way to the USSR and formed the main U.S. deterrent force in the 60's. The only trouble was that they took half an hour to fuel, so you'd better hope those Commies were slow getting their 'birds' in the air...

As a side note one of their silos formed a key set in the feature film Star Trek: First Contact.

And speaking of Commies, here's their 1980s equivalent, the SS-18 'Satan', in a test launch.

Weird..... The nose of the Globemaster in the front of the picture looks like it's straight ahead of the camera, yet the body isn't. I didn't know they had articulated cockpits! :P

We are not in Iraq.

@ Soul we do have a TOW version of the LAV 3, the MGS was unstable, the LAV could not handle it properly, the gun itself was too powerful and made the LAV roll-over

Anyways, the CF is one of the best equiped(in certain fields, those that matter I.E. land combat) and trained military forces in the world. The problem with the CF is the lack of instructors for new recruits who get to sit on their arses until a course opens up for them. That and a rather small population base from which to draw recruits, higher standards to be accepted etc...

My apologies. Shows what happens when I rely on some random page I viewed about a year ago. And, well, I suppose every country with a proud military tradition regards it's armed forces as the world's best (Australia as a whole certainly does, Canada does, Russia does, the USA does, Britain does... and so on), but I say every force has its strengths and its weaknesses. The award for best equipped would unquestionably go the the USA (a military budget of c.$400 billion anually, or twice the nearest two nations, Russia and China, combined leaves little room for argument), although it could be mooted that they don't always get the best out of it. Anyway, I won't get into it as patriotism can get a little out of control (see the 'Best Modern APC' poll for more, and that's even with a subtitle telling people not to).

Look at the positioning of the letters on the soldier's helmet - the 'UN' is right in front of the 'INVOLVED' on the sign, making it look as if it says 'UNINVOLVED'.

I very much like that pic. Sadly it's partially true.
