Also, it seems a bit like UAW or SupCom now.
Japan = Novus or Aeon
Allies = Masari or UEF
Soviets = Hierarchy or Cybran
And if they put in epic units I'll be pissed.
It does look as if the naval stuff will play an even bigger role- something the C&C games have been missing for too long.
@Soho: The whole game was unbalanced, but Yuri was by far the worst. (This does not mean, however cool it may have been, that the Prism Tanks were any bit balanced.)
Point is that soviets is unbalanced and that isnt representing problem to anyone till arrive yuris revenge and everybody bash yuri.So I dont get it:soviets are less unbalanced and yuri is more unbalanced?

Oh lord, then they might introduce ze Germans in the expansion if they go all apeshit...
``Japan = Novus or Aeon
Allies = Masari or UEF
Soviets = Hierarchy or Cybran´´
Don't know what that means but I think the factions will follow the standard pattern we see in every RTS-game and their dog.
Allies: Stealth / H&R
Soviets: Cheap units that come in huge numbers
Japan: Specialised high tech units which are expensive but powerful when mixed

Also, Why all this Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 2 YR hate? I loved RA2 more than RA1.
Becouse RA1 has this awsome cold war feeling to it and was still (from a logical point) more realistic when it comes to the weapons beeing used in it.
You had awsome battleships (which were replaced by aircraft carriers in ra2 that launched toy fighter), Hinds, MiGs and other units that have proven to be very populair under the crowd.
RA2 was also more focused on America and Russia rather than a alliance of the europeans against the entire soviet empire which it was in RA1.
Overal RA2 was more comical (still a fun game tho) and not as serious a game as the first game was and people who experinced the first game when it was fresh and new liked this game alot more than the sequal that was made afterwards.
If you don't get what i mean then don't bother to argue any futher you simply won't understand.
Also my oppinion on all of this sofar:
RA1 was a serious and nice game
RA2 was a clowns act
RA3 looks like it will be a complete circus
My statement doesn't mean i don't think it will be a fun game however.

and yes, if this is the direction they take with ra3, it looks like "The Sims, Family Wars"

Yuri fucking sucked monkey ballz. It fucked up everything that was awesome about RA1. I don't mind the mind control stuff but Yuri i hate with a passion.
All you guys hate yuri because balance.Why you dont look on soviets?
No.
We hate Yuri because he is the single most pathetic character EA has had the mis-fortune to ever think of. And he still refuses to die, even after Disembodiment.
He lives in the Shadow of Kane, from the Tiberian series, he basically looks like he's aspiring to be Kane, and failing, ever so miserably.
Does he not get the message that everybody hates him and it would be better if he just GTFO?
Soviets are, and were NOT unbalanced, and it is very much possible, for the Allies, to achieve a win. Maybe you had a few bad memories with the Soviets, I'm not gonna argue, point is, Yuri sucks, and we want him out.

Edit to make teh post atleast somehow contributory:
I'm in great agreement with The_Hunter on the whole matter. RA1 was my favourite classic C&C-game because it still had that serious, partly realistic feel to it. The stuff we saw there was actually believable to some extent and there were technologies that do exist in reality. Now C&C's drifting more and more away from that and as for Red Alert, RA2 marked the transition between serious and comical whilst YR finished it and went way too far. This one will just make it worse. Nothing beats the original Red Alert. It has a crying Josef Stalin snapping the neck of a guy, you just can't argue with that!

unsure
Cybran is the "Stealth" and multirole fraction of Sup Com, UEF are the heavy hiting and resistant fraction, Aeon is the advance technological one
Novus is the swarm and "stealth" fraction of UEW, Hierachi are the heavy hiting and resistant fraction of UEW, Masari are the multyrole fraction
Allieds are the "stealth" fraction of RA, Soviet is a Swarm faction with some heavy units, and Japan is supose to be the advance technological one
but as Raybun said are fractions made since.....Dune 2?

sure sure, that will not change my opinion of yuri beging one of the most original factions in a "lol soviet union invanding america again" story line

i think i will save this, it can be usefull when somebody talk about starcraft 2 again

Failure.
I'm going to have to see some pretty cool shit before I'm convinced that Japan was a cool design choice. What's next? EA making Jedi like soldiers fighting Mary Poppins?
Time will tell.
I'm sorry fellas, I'm exited about RA3, but it just seems that EA feels, no, almost has to force a 3rd faction. Again, time will tell if this doubt is permanent.
I'm just excited that they put my second favorite country in.
From a storyline point-of-view Japan actually seems like a great design choice,gameplay wise I don't have a clue though. When Einstein went back in time they game never explained what became of Nazi Germany's ally. Japan really carried out its actions independantly of Germany's, they only allied because they shared a common enemy.EA actually seems like its doing some plot-hole filling, which I apllaud.

But enough about him: Now I'm afraid of this just being a Generals/CNC3 Clone with remapped/retextured units + sea buildings.
I absolutely loved RA2, when it worked: Jet-troopers, Guardian Troopers: They'd better all be there, and balanced properly. And there better be random explosions for everything!
And dogs that absolutely pwn everything... oh wait, that's already announced... and they made the Spy mission way too hard. NM.

See? its done in a lot more games then you think,

Every unit has secondary functions. The allied tank for instance is able to concentrate radar beams to be used as a scouting unit
-Altough not visible on the screens, there’s going to be massive damaging in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters into the ground
-Most structures are placeable on water for extra cost
-Ships can only “land”/leave shore on sand, so its crucial to defend these areas
-The article writer claims that the impressive graphics don’t shine through the screens. In his opinion, graphics are much better compared to CnC3, he’s especially flabbergasted by the animations
-The Russians have a submarine called “ Akula” which isn’t simply deadly against ships, but is able to train divers as well
-The Bullfrog transport ship doesn’t have to set shore, its able to “shoot” out the units it’s carrying
-The Japanese Seawing bomber is able to transform into a submarine simply by falling into the water
-Sea battles will be crucial in this game
-The Japanese enroll a water-affin tank called “Tsunami” which is both heavily armoured and powerful, and slower on land than in water
-The campaign can be co-operatively played with a friend from start to finish. If theres no one to play it with, you can choose between an array of AI allies to fight the war
-SC2s lead designer worked on RA3 before he went to Blizzard
-Gameplay will be much slower, an aspect, along with the beta, that the team concluded from TW. The writer confirms this slowdown.
-Enemy soldiers freeze upon Allied dogs’ barking
-The Mobile V4 is able to swim as well, but its main draw points is the precise and area- effective attack.
- The Russians’ submarine, the Stingray Nasad, sports tesla-launchers, and is a rather small, but fast unit
-The writer praises the smooth animations, explosion effects and water in general again and again, its crazy!
--Live-action FMVs are back mixed with CGI and outdoor scenes
-The writer holds that RA3 wont be as good as SC2, but damn close, and even better than RA2
-No Yuri
-Atmosphere is top notch
- Expansion pack is already planned
