I think those two Pokemon you mentioned aren't available at this point. Might be wrong though. Anyway, from Viridian City, go west until you run into Mammoth. If your crew hasn't grown stronger, he'll break your arse. However, the fight is optional, so you could also move towards the Viridian forest.

They are in the patch of grass just north of viridian, I think, or just west of it.

Just make sure you have a Pidgey and the rat-thing whose name escapes me at the moment. The latter could be nicknamed "Ratarsed" or something.

Use the bugcatchers to level up Heinrich, as soon as he learns a Flying-type attack, he can own the entire forest.
Grab the items and if you happen to run into a Pikachu, CATCH IT, it's rare. Don't TRY to find one though, it's frustrating.

Well, leave him this little triumph then and come back once you have dozens of improved Pokeballs. You can catch and enslave him later.
Now move on to the next city and obliterate the gym-leader. He's using rock/ground-types, so Facepalm should be able to pretty much eat him apart.

should have used fire red the graphics are priter and its identicle but any way beat the gym leader then go back to the forest and enslave pika get revenge paralyse it or put it to sleep it helps then call it facepika.gif then use your first thunder stone on it after it learns thunder bolt and slam make it usefull

Fool! You can only get one starter-Pokemon and trading via emulator is out of question

So anyway, once you DO have Vine Whip, smash the gym and move east towards the mountains.
Level up Ratarsed as his evolution is a pretty decent attacker.
If you catch additional monsters, store them in the PC.
Levelling up a huge ass team at this point is tiresome.

Indeed, I smashed brock with two vine whips.
lvl 14 Bulbasaur ftw.

EDIT:
I can't remember where I got the emulator from, it was ages ago, but it's called a "Visual Boy Advence"
Also, Fire Red, and Leaf Green boreded me . Originals were wayyyyyyy better.
