Indeed, besides, excluding bands altogether is a much fairer method :P

No Foo Fighters?
It's rock/metal, you need moar mainstream rock.
I also voted Slipknot because of the energy their music creates in me, and I'm really into them right now.

So here are my favourites:
heaven shall burn : I'm not sure but it seems to be death or black metal
Sonata arctica : power metal
Bullet for my valentine : heavy metal

what do you think about them?
Quote

Mortecha's Photo Mortecha 26 May 2008

I'm pretty open in regards to music, except for anything rap or country.

I voted Dragonforce due to the fact that Through the Fire and Flames containins the most insane guitar solo i have ever seen or heard. POWER METAL FTW!!!

Hmm, where's Rob Zombie?
Quote

Mortecha's Photo Mortecha 26 May 2008

Don't forget Drowning pool and Disturbed.
Quote

Crazykenny's Photo Crazykenny 26 May 2008

Disturbed is ok, esspecially with there song "Land of Confusion" or "Down with the Sickness"
Quote

Mortecha's Photo Mortecha 26 May 2008

Yeah, I loved their remix version of land of confusion. My old man listened to Genesis when I was growing up and you can pick it up straight away.

In Flames did a remix as well but it was nowhere near as good.

The clip they made with warner bros was nice aswell.
Quote

Mortecha's Photo Mortecha 26 May 2008

Yeah it was brilliant, almost makes you want to make a mod with the amount of war gear featured in it :P Great song with a hugely relevant political theme.

Neighter Dream Theater or Ayreon on the list? Who would think of such a thing? :read:

Doesen't seem to be too many progressive metal fans on this forum :P

Mortecha's Photo Mortecha 26 May 2008

Dream theater is pretty good, but I know them more as liquid tension experiment. Are they 2 different bands on the same album or something?

Nevar heard of Ayreon though.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean... As far as I know, liquid tension experiment (I haven't listened much to it) is a purely instrumental band started by 3 Dream Theater members.
I personally prefer Dream Theater because I like their songs better and because they have a voacalist (a good one).

Nevar heard of Ayreon though.

Well, most people haven't ;). It's a great progressive rock/metal band consisting of only one permanent member who writes all the songs, plays most of the instruments, and sings in many of the songs :P .
He brings in many good guest artists for every album (or even different every song :read: ), some of them well known (e.g. Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden).
I personally like Ayreon very much, but the music style is quite unique, so I guess it doesen't appeal to quite as many as mainstream metal does.

Same with goregrind, brutal death etc *sigh* :P

Alot of nu-metal (or whatever you want to call it) fans however

Surely if you want to think about the "best" rock band (ignores metal) you have to go back to the 70's - 80's where bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath defined that kind of music?
So many bands take influences from those kind of bands.

True, but it's all about adding your personal flava to the times you live in. But yeah these guys defined what we listen to.

Dont like 50 cent but i do like other rappers.

I like their music but the lurics suck balls. They need to learn how to rap about more than guncrime etc.

As Far as black music is concerned I much preffer Reggae/Reggaeish stuff Capleton, Alborosie, Collie Buddz SGAGGY! :)

I like loads of music and really like rock like the chili peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo fighters, Muse, Radiobrainz

Getting into drum n bass n dubstep tho n trance.
