WAT.
WAT.
Turns out I wasted a TON on the wheels, so I redid them from scratch and knocked it down to 8500.
Not that I really care about the polycount, none of these are meant for games anyway.

So the APC is nearly completed (Expect the final update late tomorrow monday), but in the meantime, I had an idea:
I've got a couple projects underway and a long list of other projects that I want to do. I've decided that since I'm not making these for any mod or other project, and doing it just for fun, I would like to share the fun with the rest of the community.
So here's the deal: I will post a list (or make a poll in SYD) of all the projects that I have in mind and I want YOU to choose the order I do them in. You will be able to pick which one you want done first, which one you want done second, and which one you want done third. (I will post the list later depending on how much everyone likes this idea, and believe me when I say it is fairly lengthy.)
All the models will be to approximately the same level of detail to the APC (currently 10116 faces).
What do you think?

The APC=done.
I'm real happy with how it turned out.
A little description: (now with names! )
16240 faces.
Edit: added to and cleaned up the description a bit.
Edit2: New renders.

DBG-190 Sleipnir:
2 crew, 12 passengers
1x .50 MG, 1x 30mm grenade launcher in heavily armoured, power-assisted turret.
1x 7.62mm MG in remotely operated periscope turret.
The DBG-190 sleipnir (named after Odin's 8-legged horse from Norse mythology) is a tough, amphibious APC that takes the protection of it's occupants as it's first priority. The tough side armour is modular, making it easily customizable and replaceable. Not only that, but it can be upgraded with ERA or even multiple layers of armour plate. This, however, adds to the weight considerably. Although untested, it is predicted that this armour can negate even armour-piercing and cannon fire of up to 30mm as well as RPGs, and, fully upgraded, even ATGM's . The sloped armour on the front is thicker, but not as upgradeable; instead it is designed to deflect most shots fired from the front.
In the rear, soldiers mount and dismount from the large hatch that opens downward into a ramp; it also contains the built-in sliding door, which was designed to be a quick way for troops to exit while the APC is in immediate danger, but is often used instead of the main hatch due to it's ability to open in less than a second.
The main turret on top is equipped with a .50 cal HMG and 30mm grenade launcher, perfect for supporting the infantry inside as they mount and dismount the vehicle, and is well enough armoured to defeat small-arms fire from virtually all angles. The mini turret above the windows houses five cameras and a light MG. They offer a commanding view of the battlefield, as well as alternate thermal, night vision, and 10x magnification views.
It's 450hp diesel engine can propel the vehicle up to 120 km/h. All these factors help make the Sleipnir well adapted to urban environments; However, it does have it's drawbacks:
It's quite a bit larger than most of it's counterparts(It weighs almost 8 tons more than the Stryker, at 26 tons); and due to it's size required a larger, less economic diesel engine than other APC's. It's size also somewhat limits it's effectiveness in more open environments (due to a higher profile), although this is offset by it's higher speed. The sliding door in the rear hatch is prone to failure after receiving direct hit's from RPG's and other such ordnance, thus voiding it of Meaning or Purpose. The mini turret is also a severe weakpoint: A direct hit from an RPG or other ordnance (and even concentrated small-arms fire) can render it useless, severely limiting the drivers ability to support the infantry and main turret, and even hampering drive-ability due to the small size and limited view from the front windows.

Wow that is one nice APC!!! Is it for any game or just something you decided to model? If so, is it for an FPS or an RTS? I am still amazed by the high quality of the model.

Looks like a sweet model; great job!
Thanks for the comments guys. This forum is so dead, It's a wonder I even got any replies.
@Scopejim: No, they're not planned for any mod. I don't even know if you can use sketchup for modding.

Do you only work in Sketch Up?
Aside from the poly count that is truly scary a stupendious effort on that APC. Great work and freakishly realistic.

WARNING!!
IMAGES!!
This is a VERY BIG project.
Ladies and Mentlegen, I give you the InvincibleMK1:
This monster is the very DEFINITION of excessive firepower.
It contains (in it's current state of completion):
18 38' guns in 6 turret mounts. (each of those are bigger than Dora and Schwerer Gustav by about 188mm).
44 10' guns in 22 turret mounts.
32 Harpoons in 8 fixed mounts. (will be many more).
Currently no AA, but there will be roughly 80 bofors guns in Quad mounts throughout the ship, as well as CIWS and missiles.
It is roughly 3 times the length of an Iowa class battleship.
About 50-55% complete.
More pics:
The main guns.
Close-up of the (nuclear?) missile silos.
Starboard side guns.
The whole ship, out of water.
This ship is PURE FANTASY. Please don't remark about how unrealistic it is.
Questions, comments, suggestions etc. all welcome.

A REAL MAN'S ship wouldn't need any weapons, the wake of the ship alone would produce tidal waves capable of destroying entire countries.
BeefJeRKy 30 Nov 2008
I assume you'll find a good use for that enormous free space at the bow? Maybe a VTOL pad?
Dr. Strangelove 30 Nov 2008
OK, I'll admit it. It may not be a real man's ship(see above), but it is epic.
Or a mobile satellite rocket launch pad. I've seen a ship built specifically for launching rockets at sea.

I was thinking of putting a VLS there; It already has a VTOL pad (and Hangar) toward the stern of the ship.

I recently downloaded a freeware rendering program called Kerkythea, which has a plugin for sketchup. So you guys can expect some better renders in the future. I've already re-done the Sliepnir, so just scroll up to see them.
I've also updated my list of future projects; I've added a few and you can now see what I'm currently working on and how close they are to completion.
