Most firework-footprints faked in broadcast.

Quote

In yesterday’s Opening Ceremony, a step-by-step series of fireworks-sequenced footprints that "walked" from Yongdingmen along the central axis to the Bird’s Nest pushed the whole night into its climax. Many viewers, via live TV broadcast, were amazed by the spectacular Beijing nightscape. A video team employee of the opening ceremony told the reporter that TV viewers and spectators inside the stadium saw mostly an animated three-dimensional video that was made over a year’s time. It was not, actually, live shots, except the last foot. [...]

Befogged and in a delirious state the Chinese government news agency 'Xinhua' reported 40 billion people worldwide have watched the event. A very impressive number indeed, but I'm sure they meant extraterrestrials...

By Sportswriter Yan Hao

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games staged here on Friday night has caught nearly 40 billion people's eyes worldwide. [...]

You do realize that the whole of China was watching right + the world?

What was faked? You're accusing my country of 'faking' whatever it was without physical evidence?

EDIT:In before China bashing...

Zhen, the world population had just barely reached 7 6.7 billion.

Like Boidy, I do believe it's a typography on the news agency's part.

Before accusing others for China-bashing how about having some perspective and thinking rationally before you post?

I don't meant to sound too judgmental to you but as for now I've caught you acting like this several times already.

Do you want to represent China in a more positive way? Think of what I just said.

Acting?Like what? So if someone was or Tried bashing your country wouldn't you do the same? Also it doesn't help when people post bashing/accusation posts or whatever against a country without real proof the 'proposed' evidence could be just bogus.

I'm sorry but I just won't stand there and let my country take the blame....

Zhen, you will have to learn to take a little criticism, it is incredibly short sighted to claim any country is perfect, I could happily reel of a list as long as my arm of faults with the UK. I for one tire of people wearing their nation like a badge. All we are pointing out here is that the media have made a serious error because they are claiming the impossible.

Words abound that originally there were 'green' fireworks to be used in the opening ceremony to reduce the amount of air pollutants. Is it possible the 'artificial' fireworks show shares the same aim? IIRC for days prior to the ceremony Beijing has had clear sky days (but at 7th the fog returns?).

I'm sure the reporters meant 40 milllion watched the Opening Ceremony, just some wrong English.

About the firework show, it's definitely real. Just imagine, it's like 20 kilometers from south of Second Ring Road to Bird's Nest, even if 3D animations fooled the people who watched TV, can it really fool the 13 million people in Beijing? I don't think so.

Meh, I don't watch the Olympics for the opening ceremony. Sure it's totally awesome when they do a really cool opening, but the real heart of the games is in the athletes. :)

I must admit, the footprints didn't look that real when I watched them.. I guess mainly because of how close the camera was to them.

And lol, 40 Billion! From estimates I heard, it was 1 billion, which sounds a lot more plausible than 40 billion/million.
