Even though I have the prerequisite amount of posts required, I would agree in that certain members who have been around for a while and show reasonable behavior and courtesy such as logical deserve some kind of way to prove themselves right?

Thomas, Richard and Harold may complain about his lower postcount but I'm sure they are aware of the fact that logical2u has been involved in the forum for 2 and a half years, unlike themselves.

I do not want to get further drawn off topic, Logical2u is welcome to make an application once we release the application form, access rights will be dealt with on merit.

I've been indifferent to the whole "No politics" issue on ES. At least though your listening to your member base and giving it a try.
I wont be applying till after the forum is created though and I see how it goes.

Hmm. I feel that I'm kinda indifferent to the new politics forum, probably because I hardly ever posted in there unless I had something I was really adamant about (which was usually about never, or <1% of the time). Though I have well over the minimum amount of required posts, an application to post in there is probably unlikely from me. I'll probably more than likely read the forum though.

Well I think we are going to be quite conscious of this. Given recent events. The rules we have created are really there as our protection so we don't have to. If you apply you have to fully acknowledge the ramifications of ignoring them, we are hoping that by tightening them we won't need to do much moderating. Although we will be keeping a very close eye for a while to make sure, but this is understandable given the volatile nature of what we are returning to. The application process should also help.

I will also point out that posts in the Political Area will not increase post count.

Tarnation why is that?

With a five minute flood control, mainly veteran members and an application system, this forum is the antipole of the spam discussion.

There seem to be a whole lot of rules atm now. I hope it will be loosened through time, with the members taking on a system of values rather than this law enforcement strategy. That's much more lax and inviting.

We want there to be no other reason post than maturely discussing the policies at hand, and as such posts with just 'QFT' are not welcome.

We may decide to remove some rules dependent on how the PA behaves, we will choose when and if to discuss rules, this is not a negotiable point, or we will end up with the mess that caused the end of the Deep End.

As Dauth said, it's because of the past that what we have in place now is like it is. Depending on how things go who knows what will happen. It could be shelved in a week. Or everyone gets along perfectly and we have no reason to worry at all. Consider the situation as it is proposed now as the boy scouts say "always be prepared". If you want to apply you know what to expect. Then it all goes fantastically well.

It's not designed to be anti-spam, that isn't what we were going for. The flood control issue, if possible to implement, is there to help when typing a post. I know that the longer I think about what I write the more chance there is that I will re-read and re-write it. Quick replies can lead to a fast and furious discussion which has in the past meant flame wars. The flood control idea is a means to an end to try and eliminate this flurry of activity on a hot or intense topic.

Well first of all this is brilliant news, I for one am looking forward to having some meaningful intelligent conversation. The rules though strict, are not overbearing, but I think there may be lots of post editing with the 5minute rule.

While that may be true, you will also get Edward, Phil and Chris. Although they are aware of the fact that logical2u has been involved for 2 years, they don't care, and because they don't care they will create extra work for the moderating team. Unfortunately try as you might there are people like this. Shame they ruin the fun for some decent mature members, but thats the way it is.

With all the enforced rues now in place over the forum, I don't see any reason for it to go tits up unless a specific member has set out to try and ruin it, which I can't see them succeeding in.
I may apply but because I only have an interest in very few areas I will likely not post much even if I do get posting rights.
But, it's nice to see the admins doing something so significant for the members.

Fixed. It was a group decision following some long debate.

And we don't see any one person trying to ruin it or them being successful. It would take a large number of people to post in a certain way to actually ruin it. The rules are there now to remove a single offending member should they try to, but as I already said, they are really a very strong reminder of how we'd like to see the posts going. We are actually hoping and indeed relying on the discretion of the participants to make sure that we don't need to enforce them.

Question: Do I have to make the application now or can I do so later? I planned to do so after seeing how the section went first. Rather then throwing my eggs in the basket early.

There is no cut-off period for the Political Area in terms of applications, yet. If you want to wait then do so. Should we get to a stage where we think there might be we'll make sure everyone knows.

Oh, yes. I'd like to see the action between Aftershock and Dr. Strangelove again, this time, their poltical views.

LOL :stickattack2:

P.S. If there would be a political discussion, E-studios shall need one or two more moderators (for the Gen Discussion, Moddings, etc. topics) Five heads are better than three.
