The modelling is great but you really need to work on the smoothing groups.

Awesome. This is simply epic . I love those missile trails as well.
Regarding the shell-strike issue, I think we can assume that the rotors are made of composites that can withstand those hits

You see, Ox describes its function. An Oxes are often used to carry stuff around. A V-35 carries stuff around. Ntm, the Scythe doesn't fire lead.

I see no issues with the barrel. Now it looks pretty awesome 
. What is the black plate kinda thing on the side? Extra armor plating or solar cells :xD. Is that an air duct on the head?

Yes, that is a hüge air-duct on the head. Just like it was in Tib. Sun. Also yes, the fire is cutting through the barrel. But that's intentional, as some of the fire is diverted backwards from the muzzle brakes.
