it's gotta be a ruse. whoever *supposedly* sent the message (i think i know who) just happens to run across a forum that has a Ground Zero. and this person just happens to know what ground zero is, before most of the forum members do.

i think that the mods didn't cancel GZ, but will spring it on us when GZ arrives.

...at least until you explain this:
How can someone send you a mail informing you of a really serious legal issue concerning this "something" when you've not even told the community what this "something" is?

Ground Zero is a project rather larger than you'd realise and has input from people that aren't necessarily members of this community. The issue is serious because experience has taught me to consider it serious until proven otherwise. It is for this reason that the team have taken the decision to cancel rather than run the risk by continuing. We are looking into this in a very careful and considered way, bearing in mind that something of this nature should not have come up and we still feel is either confused or basically groundless. Until that is unequivocally resolved we have adopted this path.

[joke] It's just an excuse Wizard is using to not have to write up any more announcements... :P [/joke]

Seriously though, I wish you guys good luck with sorting out the legal issues and hopefully this project can be relaunched.

is it due to people relating ground zero with 9/11 ? all tho I'm seriously confused as what ground zero actually pertains to

Wow. That really sucks. I know the general idea - and I must admit I had wondered whether it might tread on a few toes, but I'd never thought legal action would have been warranted - but I was still looking forward to the specifics, and of course the community's reaction. Hopefully you'll still be able to do this, just perhaps with a slight tweak or two here and there.

Reason for edit:: Sorry Soul, I'm not sure whether I was supposed to say that or not. I hope you'll forgive me for playing it safe.

I want to know just how the frigging hell it violates anything at all. It's not like you was using any copyrighted material. I could possibly see it stepping on a toe or two with games like Stalker and Fallout but ... not even so much there that there would be LEGAL ACTION.

I would just add that this still begs the question as to how said legal intruder found out about such a thing. Whether this is spread across more people than we can see, or still contained within the moderating team, it would appear that there is a 'leak'. It is a great pity that all of the hard work so far has been postponed before it can be revealed, but whatever the true meaning of GroundZero, hopefully at least some of it's essence will come forth in the fullness of time. I will also say that I agree with what Swimmer posted earlier in his rather cryptic ways. Also, if there was ever any possibility of legal ramifications when it comes to the project, surely you guys must have noticed it in some shape or form, unless this is a completely outrageous legal case. I would also like to wonder why you are unable to say anything about what is going on, because unless this is pertaining to a serious case, surely there must be no reason as to why you have legally been silenced.

However, after all the nit-picking, my condolences. It is an uttermost pity.

THEY'RE GETTING SUED BY MICROSOFT FOR COPYING HALO LOLOLOL!!!

:RAGE:

Seriously don't even joke these days, a C&D can basically destroy a modding community. Just ask (what's left of) SSP.

I for one have my doubts, viral seems to be the in thing...

I myself am sceptical about this.
From what I know, I can see one or two things that may have some legal ramification due to the insane times of today and political correctness, but otherwise, I cannot see anything that would cause something this major.

As far as I know there are not enough evidence supporting this cancellation of Ground Zero if it's true about this cancellation may we request showing us a very hard concrete evidence. If it's not allowed to tell us then may the staffers tell us when may this problem be fixed? Please.

To answer some more questions raised.

1. Right now we know very little in the way of hard facts in relation to the issue in question.
2. What we have chosen to do is precautionary until we do.
3. If this is sorted out then GZ will still happen.
4. As I have said there are several people outside of this community that have an involvement, we think this is where this issue has come from.
5. We are looking into this as we speak.
6. We believe that there is a misunderstanding on this issue by another party and that this is wholly groundless.

Will the countdown start from the beginning or continuing the final days of the countdown?
Quote

Alias's Photo Alias 25 Sep 2008

Well Ground Zero is scheduled for the first - I'd expect if this was sorted before then that the countdown would just skip a few days and we'd continue on path.
