Longer version of Chaos Rising trailer, now that looks better, and I think I spotted something related to Nurgle ?! :P

Actually those look members of the Black Legion, Horus' own. They are now an undivided chapter which would explain why they have Blood Letters and 'something related to Nurgle', although I didn't see anything beyond some green mist which you could associate with Nurgle. Plague Marines confirmed, Librarian confirmed & Eliphias confirmed

That voice at the end sounded awfully like a space marine's while obviously is from Chaos. I think this means the CSMs will sound alot more like their untainted brothers. Maybe now I'll get DoWII when Chaos Rising will be released? :P

They can because the Black Legion is Chaos Undivided and therefore have access to all of the greater and lesser daemons. Actually true to the fluff.

A quick update. Gamespot have had a chance to review some SP missions. Brief outline of their article:

  • Johan the Librarian to act as an arty/support unit
  • Eliphas the Inheritor returns as the leader of Chaos.
  • Corruption meter will provide new skill trees for your SM
  • Only SM will be available in SP
  • The Predator will have a somewhat similar mechanic to CoH
  • Mission structure will not be kill some units, fight boss unit, rinse & repeat. However Relic are keeping quiet about what exactly will happen.
  • Expect bigger battles

Huge Chaos Rising update time as we've said nothing about it for a while now.

A couple of new units are being previewed in the Dev Diary:

Posted Image
Posted Image
Tyrant Guard

Posted Image
Posted Image
Genestealer

Posted Image
Weirdboy

Posted Image
Wraithguard

Posted Image
Posted Image
Librarian

Posted Image
Heretic

Posted Image
Chaos Space Marine

Posted Image
Havoc Squad

Also the latest Multiplayer vid can be found here, in HD at Gamespot.

Also seems that the 'nids will be added as a useable faction in Last Stand.

Personally I am happy to see the inclusion of the Genestealers who are an iconic part of the Hive, but rather annoyed that Havocs were added, basically making them a mirror of the Space Marines, only with darker, pointy armour.

Anyway all this can be found in the dev diary

The funny thing about the video is that there is a Chaos Juggernaut. I could have sworn that was a beast from Warhammer Fantasy, rather than Warhammer 40,000 (appears I'm wrong). It is a rather nasty beast though, because as the lore states, and if I remember this right, the beast's blood is magma, which, if the fact that the beast belongs to Khorne isn't enough for its temper, then the magma should explain its *ahem* heated state of being.

If THQ/Relic really wanted to have an up-to-date game, they'd give the Tyranid a few more genetic mutations/species, considering the newest codex for the Tyranid was released just a month or so ago. I wonder how useful/useless the Weirdboy will be. The Orks are severely lacking (though it seems that most people don't much care for this fact), because 1). they are a horde army and given the current state of their race in the game, can't really outnumber the enemy much past minute 2 of the game actually starting. Hmm, it seems that after some reading up on the Weirdboy, he sounds quite useful. More of an offensive supporting role, rather than the Big Mek's defensive support, and that "Foot of Gork" ability is rather tempting.

Chaos Space Marines ARE a darker, more pointed army Wiz, as I know you're well aware. Whatever weapons, vehicles and Space Marines followed Horus, that is what Chaos now has (unless of course, your legion follows Nurgle, in which case your vehicles are quite literally rust buckets). Speaking of Nurgle, The Great Unclean One is now in the game, in place of the more Khorne-like Daemon Prince. Personally, I'm happier to see Nurgle getting a chance to "shine" rather than Khorne. It's easier to infect by ways of disease, than ways of rage and anger. But back to Chaos in general. Now Chaos Marines will be able to be devoted (via upgrade) to a god of Chaos. Honestly, this is rather lame. Make it an upgrade from the HQ so that the marines are devoted to a certain Chaos god and can upgrade their weapons individually according to those weapons associated with that Chaos god. This way we'll get proper Plague, Noise, and Rubric Marines instead of the silly excuses THQ is currently giving.

Havocs are the heavy weapons team of Chaos, and as such, they'll be just like the Devastators and have a limited firing arc (which again, is LAAAAME). The weapons they wield however, will be different. As noted in the Dev diary, you can "devote" the Havocs to Khorne, granting them Autocannons. Autocannons are nice, but they don't punch through extremely heavy armour like a Lascannon or a Plasma Cannon would. A missile launcher would be better and Chaos does have access to these. Yes, heavy weapons need time to set up, but these weapons are hand-held, not mounted on a tripod. Once the weapon holder is stationary, the weapon should be able to be fired.

In fairness it is one of the cooler Lesser Daemons of Chaos. Originality is all well and good, but the Jug. is just awesome.

I have to agree with you here. The Greenskins are the most pointless race to include in this game due to their tactical use. You can't out horde the hive. However, they are hella popular in the 40k universe and everyone would've boycotted the game if they weren't in.

Ofc, but what I mean is that adding in a Chaotic Avatus is about as lacking in orginality as you can get. Chosen or Possessed Marines would've been a much more original choice and underpinned the obvious melee capabilities of the faction.

Agreed, I'd have dearly loved to see Tzeentch or Slaanesh appear but they aren't the preferred Gods and they are trying to make some money by being a little bit popular. Good to see Nurgle being included anyway.

Sorry, I haven't read everything in the dev diary yet. Are you saying that you can align a squad to a different God??? Surely that is just Undivided and something an Undivided Chapter would be able to do anyway? In a way it's just like FoK. You can choose one God, and get better upgrades and more Daemons for doing it or be Undivided and have more troops at your disposal.

Afaik, there are no weapon affiliations to Gods. So that is lame, irrespective of the set up time thing.

Tzeentch was chosen as the preferred god for the Warhammer Online game, so the god of change does have a following, though it seems the its following is not as large as those of Khorne or Nurgle.

From what the dev diary is hinting at, you can devote a squad individually to a different Chaos god, which is all well and good, but if you're playing a Legion like the Black Legion, which is Undivided, it seems pointless to devote a Marine squad after they've been trained. The Black Legion has been around since just after the fall of Horus (so named by Abaddon to honour the fall of the legion's former Primarch, Horus), so if any marines are to be brought to bear on the enemy, they've already had time to select a particular god to follow. Again, this should be reflected in the HQ by having a squad that already serves a particular god. This way the player can pick a squad from any of the 4 gods. Certain gods however, like to wage war a certain way. Tzeentch likes to stay back and use sorcery, while Tzeentch's Marines (also called Rubric Marines) use bolters. Khorne prefers to get in close and use melee weapons like chain axes. Nurgle and Slaanesh are, if I remember right, a bit of a combo between close and long range combat. So to go along with certain Chaos gods using certain weapons, this would relegate the type of squads the player could select from the HQ. A standard Space Marine squad bearing the mark of Khorne will look and act vastly different from a squad bearing the mark of Slaanesh.

Tzeentch likes to appear as a giant vulture, or at least something that is mostly a monstrous bird-like creature. Not something completely horrid, just a bit ungainly and not as exciting as The Great Unclean One or a Blood Thirster. Slaanesh, however, is a complete other story. Though this god can take many forms and prefers to be in the image of a man (according to the lore), the model that exists for a lesser daemon, is that of a woman, with 6 breasts, 3 of which are exposed. I don't think that model would get through the censors anytime soon.

Greenskins are stupidly popular, partly because they have a simplistic philosophy of things that makes their views rather entertaining, and the other part being they are HUGELY customizable. Model intensive just doesn't describe how difficult Orks can be to model, but you can make almost anything into something an Ork would use. In DoW, Orks were a LOT more durable than they are in DoW II, and that's what bothers me. How can one race go from being middle of the pack, to most certainly dead last? The Ork codex hasn't augmented them in a negative way, so why has THQ/Relic made them so deplorable? If you're going to include a popular race, at least give them the stones to back up that popularity. That, and as I stated earlier, Orks are partly popular because you can field so many more of them for the same points as your opponent spent on a relatively smaller army. In DoW II, you just can't do that. Even with the "Call Da Boyz" ability, Orks are left lacking. You can't even field a proper amount of vehicles and have a decent amount of Greenskins to back up the armour.

Neither of the gents reviewed said anything about Tzeentch (Scorcerer, which should actually be a Sorcerer Lord and part of the Thousand Sons), or Slaanesh. Though to be fair, Slaanesh is kind of a mix of offense and defense.

As far as the Predator is concerned, the Destructor pattern is nothing new for DoWII. Basic armament is an autocannon and heavy bolter sponsons....which is what the Predator has come equipped with since the original DoW. The only difference here is that you'll be able to upgrade the sponsons to lascannons. The Annihilator mounts twin-linked lascannons and sponons, with the ability to add some anti-infantry firepower by way of heavy bolter sponsons. Kind of meh if you ask me. Save the pattern names for the table top and just add the lascannons as an available upgrade. Also, the pattern worth bragging about is the Baal pattern, which mounts twin-linked assault cannons and heavy flamer sponsons. Technically, the Blood Ravens should be employing the Baal as an option, but that's just my $0.02.

In the interview with the MP Chief, I find it amusing that he states "I try to cater to each race equally". Okay then, if each race is catered to "equally", then the Ork should be a LOT better than they are currently. I have a feeling they won't be, so "equally" in this case is getting another HQ choice. Plus, if all the other original races have 4 HQ choices, why doesn't Chaos? There are 4 Chaos gods, and near as I can tell, Slaanesh is not (yet) being offered as an HQ choice.

I'm assuming that the Weirdboy didn't displace the Big Mek as an HQ choice, so your HQ choices for Ork would be as follows: Warboss, Kommando, Weirdboy, and Big Mek. For Space Marines there's Force Commander, Librarian, Apothecary, and Tech Marine. So unless one of the HQ choices is replaced, then there will be 4 HQ options.

Well then, I stand (or rather sit), corrected.

Seems the Chaos Dreadnought will be portrayed correctly, but only if you chose the mark of Khorne. This mark will allow the Dreadnought to go berserk, attacking anyone and anything in its path, regardless of allegiance. Honestly, any Chaos Dread, regardless of legion has a chance of going insane, so the fact that this trait is pinned to one mark is kind of lame. Speaking of Chaos Dreads, it would be nice if there were a mark of Slaanesh. Could grant an ability to deafen (and therefore weaken the resolve or morale of) the enemy, causing them to run away after taking damage (could also have a slight chance of outright killing a targeted enemy).

Speaking of high volume sound, where are the Noise Marines? Would have been nice to see those, since Plague Marines made it in. Rubric Marines would also have been nice to see, as these guys are just as tough as Plague Marines, without the stink/disease.

There is so much of Chaos that could have been incorporated in DoWII that just isn't....or at least, isn't being shown.

I think they've left out Rubics and Noise Marines as Khore & Nurgle are the more popular allegiances mate. It would have been really nice to see a decent allegiance mechanic rather than just a one off unit choice, which you can bet your bottom dollar on being limited. Not sure how NM would figure as, iirc, NM are anti infantry and the PM appear to be the devastor option for that and anti vehicle.

Noise Marines are both anti vehicle and anti infantry. The noise waves vibrate the target violently causing infantry to pop and armour to rattle in on itself. They would feature nicely as an area of effect weapon or as squad disruption. A given ability could also slow advancing armour or infantry, so that the target could take more damage. Despite the popularity of certain Chaos gods, there should be a representation of all four, because each god has at least one unique trait and is represented as a unique troop choice. Noise and Rubric Marines are still a viable option, if Plague Marines and Berserkers (honestly haven't seen head or tail of those raving lunatics) are to be included. Tactically, including troop choices that would slow your enemy would work because more firepower could be directed towards them. Long-ranged attacks could help deter attackers, or at the very least, a certain type of attacker.

Space Hulks are essentially Imperium ships that get infested with Genestealer Tyranids. They are then normally over run with the whole crew being wiped out. They then wander through space with no pilot controls. Normal story is Terminators are sent in to the derelict ships to purge the Xenos etc.....

I guess this has been added to give another dimension (?) to the landscape and storyline. Possibly something to do with Chaos and warp storms methinks.

Space Hulks are an element of the Warhammer 40k table top that were introduced when Warhammer 40k first came out in the 1980's. As Wiz has stated, it is normally between Space Marines (often Terminators) and Tyranids that are occupying/infesting long since lost Imperial vessels. Typically Terminators are equipped with heavy flamers because it is through cleansing fire that the Xenos may be purged.
