Enough with WWII! We need a Civil war, or Medieval Based Battlefield game! That would be pretty awesome.

DO IT NAO!

Battle Field Civil wars would be cool. it could have like 10 civil wars...

If done properly, an FPS about the Lebanese civil war could be quite enjoyable. Though Hezbollah as a side would be more dominant.

Nope. BF1942 is the only Battlefield I will willingly own, Vietnam is the only Battlefield I have never played, BF2 is the only Battlefield I will play elsewhere (gotta love the helicopters), and BF2142 is the only Battlefield I will willing burn. This latest one is EA just flogging a dead horse.

Damn AJ. Did you copy my opinion? I totally agree with you. Bf 1942 was great and I always wanted one with better grafics and physics, I've never palyed Bf Vietnam, Bf2 is great especially with AIX2 Mod and Bf2142 was good the first months, but tbh it sucks.

Tbh BF1942 got a little old eventually, so I switched to Desert Combat, which was an exceptional mod - switching between the two was all I ever really needed from the Battlefield Series aside from a graphics/physics update. Also, AIX2 was fun, but I'm not willing to shell out for BF2 - it's just not worth it if you have BF1942. And luls at the exceptional ninja :duh:

Having never played BF1942 I might get this game. I remember playing Vietnam at Net Cafes with friends as well as BF2. Pretty awesome. 2142 with the Titan was nice but lacked variety in my opinion. Bad Company felt like a different game if you ask me. Too light hearted for a BF game IMO. Plus as much as WWII has been overdone, I'm willing to get some better pacific scenario games.

Vietnam was good, but all it was was a mod for 1942. There was nothing special about it, just the 'goodness' carried over from 1942.

Either way, 1942 is one of the greatest multiplayer FPS games ever.

Well, heaps more info on 1943 has come out lately, including this new trailer. I must admit that while I wasn't at first convinced, and while it's not Battlefield 3, this might actually have some promise in it. The art direction is actually really original; it's not cel-shaded, but it's definitely highly saturated, which makes for a nice contrast with World at War and all the other dingy WW2 games out there at the moment and fits the postcard feel quite nicely. Moreover, this might help quite a bit:

DICE Announces $15 Price for Battlefield 1943
Premium Arcade Title Delivers Endless Hours of Multiplayer Fun, Legendary WWII Battlefield Action and Destruction

STOCKHOLM - DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio, today announced that Battlefield 1943™ will be available in June for $15 USD in the Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace (1200 MS Points) or the PlayStation®Store. The action-packed arcade title will also be available for PC in September. Battlefield 1943 is an all-new multiplayer game that offers endless hours of 24-player action in popular maps inspired by Battlefield 1942™, now updated with the Frostbite™ engine. The total destructibility afforded by the Frostbite engine ups the ante and leaves players with nowhere to hide.

In Battlefield 1943, intense battles ensue over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Gamers play as the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy, competing by land, air and sea. Players have the freedom to pick their path in battle - be it as a rifleman crawling through the trenches, a steel fisted tank commander, or a dog fighting pilot that protects the skies.

“Using the same Frostbite engine that we developed for Battlefield: Bad Company, we are able to take players back to WWII and return to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, but with a new twist – destruction,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943. “We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title with Battlefield 1943.”

Now that I know that it's not trying to be Battlefield 3, which by all appearances is still in the works for some time or other, this looks like a good addition to the Battlefield franchise perfect for console players. Of course, since I'm not among them, I won't be playing, but I think I'll be content with Battlefield Heroes which should come out 'soon' (as in open beta in a few months) instead. Plus Bad Company 2, but info's still very thin on the ground about that, aside from the fact that it'll be more serious (as the reveal teaser/trailer seems to indicate). Not only that, but when the mean that Bad Company 2 will be multiplatform, they really mean it:

Quote

Battlefield Bad Company 2 will be a multiplatform release, this means that it will be available for PC, LINUX (Red Hat Edition), Ubuntu, Apple Macintosh, PS3, Xbox360, PS2, PSP, Mobile Phone, iPhone, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS.
With a simultaneous release date for all titles. Rather ambitious, and I'm rather apprehensive about what splitting it up over multiple consoles will do for the quality of each version. Still, the Frostbite engine is looking lovelier than ever.

New trailers released for Bad Company 2 and 1943:
BC2
BF1943
Tell me I'm not the only person who things the BC2 trailer is just one of the most pure and concentrated pieces of awesome they've seen recently.

Also, to recap:
Battlefield 1943 will:
  • Be for XBox 360 and PS3 only
  • Be download-only over the PlayStation Network or XBox Live
  • Cost $15 USD
  • Contain 2 sides, the United States and Japan
  • Initially contain only 3 maps - Wake Island, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal - but will be expanded post-release in DLC
  • Use the BF:BC-pioneered Frostbite engine for destructible environments and High Dynamic Range audio
  • Not be 'Battlefield 3'

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will:
  • Be for a vast range of platforms, starting with a simultaneous release for PC, PS3 and XBox 360
  • Use an enhanced version of the Frostbite engine used by the original, including the ability to completely destroy buildings
  • Be more serious - more blood, less jokes
  • Still contain a single-player campaign, starting in Russia, visiting other world locales (including Alaska, which is the focus of the snowy Port Valdez map seen in screens)
  • Have 40+ players in multiplayer (as opposed to the 24-player cap in the original)
  • Offer Gold Rush (renamed to simply 'Rush') and Conquest, but with more modes coming post-release
  • Be faster-paced than the original - players are easier to kill but spawn faster, and interestingly appear to do so by parachute for the majority of the time
  • Have no user-controllable jets
  • Have no health injector, but a constant regeneration system
  • Have no mod tools, as none exist for the Frostbite engine
  • Have 4 kits - Assault, Medic, Recon, Engineer - with more selectable & unlockable weapons/gadgets + more achievements
  • Have highly customisable weapons
  • Have the defibrillator as an unlock (must make the medic class a bit difficult until you unlock it) which has a smaller revive window (5/10 seconds)
  • Have better animations (actually grabbing dog tags from knifed enemies for example)
  • Have more vehicles, including zippy 2-person quad bikes
  • Have more information for the PC version coming soon (possibly meaning some of the above information does not apply?)

Also, new screens:

It was, yes. Or at least 'in-engine' - I suspect that some animations may have been edited.

According to DICE, the

Lul nade spam was easy to counter, just listen out for it, plus there are more medics than sense most of the time.

DICE have announced a new map for Battlefield 1943 called Coral Sea, which will be an effectively air-only map for constant, endless sky battles. It is a bit different to the other three announced maps though - it'll only be unlocked for download (at which point it will be free) after the community has racked up 43,000,000 kills (this applies to each console - it'll be unlocked on PlayStation network after 43,000,000 PS3 kills and on Xbox Live after 43,000,000 360 kills). It looks pretty frantic stuff in this trailer, though.
