I just bought RA3 on Steam, and they did not send me a product code. WTF! I already sent a message to support, but I have tried everything else too. I looked, there is no "view code option", they didnt send it in the receipt email, and it does not automatically detect. I am really pissed. Did anyone else have this problem?

Can you install/run it? IIRC, Steam games don't have install/registration codes for their games...

They shouldn't as long as their downloaded.
Only hard copy games need the codes.

Okay so I bought it, installed it, and whenever i run it it asks me for a product key. I do not know why. I am going to try reinstalling it.

EDIT: That didnt work. Any suggestions?

Solution: Don't buy on Steam.

There is nothing wrong with Steam if you buy online and dl. It's when you buy a hard copy and register that problems occur. Bottom line I suspect that this is the EA's fault and caused by it's online validation service not being very compatible with anything other than EA.

IIRC I have NEVER had to enter a product code for a Steam purchased game. If you haven't already uninstalled it, do this and see what happens.

Steam has never given me any problems, quick downloads, quick update and ready to play. I suggest you either ring the steam hotline or post on their forums, google it.

Thats just the thing, whenever I go to steam support they do not have a number. Its just an email service. And EA support I am not going to bother trying because JB (talked to him about it last night) says they charge 1.50 USD per minute. I dont think I would get much help on their forums, as the topic from a person who had a similar problem as me died without an answer. I am going to google this problem and see what I come up with.

Looks like I'll be getting RA3 from a store it seems since EA fucked up the Steam D/L.

If you want a download version of RA3 use IGN's D2D. Works better with EA's games. For Ultimentra, did you check the Steam forums? I had a similar issue with Mass Effect and Company of Heroes on Steam. I found fixes on that forum.

You could try going on to EA's forum and contact EA_DrJay, he's pretty good solving issues. (Though I do not know if he deals with Steam versions)

Well since you paid for it, you should be able to legally use a crack.

Oh, whoop de freakin do. Looky what I got from EA customer support!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.The product key is 20 digit registration code which is needed to install or activate the game in your system. If you have purchased the game and not received it,then I request you to contact steam as you have purchased the game from steam.I apologize but we will not be able to assist you in this issue.

Fair play to EA - they license their stuff out to Steam to redistribute - distribution issues are Steam's problem, whereas errors with the game will be EA's problem - this happened with my copy of TFD - the serial keys were messed up - I spoke to the reseller (GAME) as EA would not help me.

I just got an email from steam with instructions, I will edit my post if I it works or not. The guy seems very knowledgeable and wanting to help me so I have high hopes.

EDIT: YAY IT FINALLY WORKS!

Finally, I have a working Red Alert 3 game and I have re-completed some soviet campaign missions. I thanked the steam guy for his response. Since my problem has been solved, this topic isnt much use any more. Locky, can you take center stage for me?

So what's the moral of the story here? Go straight to steam support, not EA's.

Steam is awesome. Why bother purchasing boxes and disks when your copies of your games on Steam are eternal (never get scratched, never get lost or stolen), update themselves automatically, is generally cheaper (sometimes extremely), has a great community, great support, fast downloads and good online gaming?

Locked at OP's request.
