Actually Kadaffi just closed some major oil contracts with the west before he was killed, which are now all void. So it wasn't about oil, really.

Isn't it spelled Gaddafi? Or does it have something to do with how Arabic letters are translated.

Well, considering his name in Arabic is already spelt (and pronounced) in 6 totally different ways, you can't expect to find only one spelling in latin letters either :)

It's a transliteration so the spelling is not a very strict thing.
