In a more compressed file type INI? Thus, each time the game was run using the tablet.

Zhen does bring up a good point. It does seem that EA is trying to make an attempt with being more community friendly. Only if the newer SAGE engines were easier to mod and had a mod SDK at release then that would make the whole community as a whole happy.

And odds are why the RA3 SDK was delayed was because those employees that were working on it were re-assigned to the new C&C game, having the RA3 SDK on the back burner.

How if make generals 2 moddable without SDK? So modding is 100x easier.

So you want a game that reads two completely different data types? Some Ketchup too?

I just like the way of modding of Generals 1. Rather than SDK with many limitation.
You can mod Generals 1 only with notepad right?

That is because its data is stored very inefficiently. Making a game crappy just to allow people to tinker with it more efficiently doesn't seem like a good business strategy.

I actually hope that Gens2 will have an SDK, or at least, compiled mods, because it shortens loading times a lot. And keeps 11-year-old-purple-scrin-like noobs from stealing things.

That doesn't mean that EA cares for supporting modding, only for getting their share of the cake once the work has been done. They have a record on support full of bullshitting and restraining the community for some years now...

Regarding the SDK:

I recently had an opportunity to play Mount & Blade, a very interesting indie game that with a little more work can become quite spectacular. But that's not the point - the game stores it's data on ini files, very similar to the way Generals does. And it works. Not only that, but the sheer number of mods is amazing!

Also, I like the way the developers work with the community - they support modding to a great extent sometimes they even include a quality idea from the modding team into an official patch! Now, bear in mind that such a thing isn't really possible with the kind of production C&C has, but still...

What "but still..."? It's, as you said yourself, simply not possible for EALA to do something similar ATM.

Just got this in the mail from EA. I am curious but not really excited as EA haven't particularly wowed me with either C&C3 or RA3.

Well, I'm still gonna buy it, like I said. I'm a fanboy.

With all this time making the damn thing there better be a beta for it. (Not that I don't like EA taking their time)

And to be honest, it seems there is some good commmunity input. I still think that, like Microsoft, EA is becomming a better, improved company with more community spirit.

Hot damn, i was looking forward to Generals 2. Maybe they will bring out two CNC games but they probably won't.

CNC4 is already disappointing me, which is not a good start.

Why not a CnC universe set in the future? "Command and Halo" |8

O right, because then the Fanboys go "WTF IS THIS SHIT! This is not CnC!!!".

Prime example of why EA are not doing a Generals in favour of C&C4.

Generals has never really been considered as a 'pure' C&C game, with many of the fanboys (the main market for EA) boycotting the thing. Now that people know what the game is going to entail, and how it will not be like the usual C&C system, they just won't buy it unless it's exceptional, which take time work and money. Why spend all of that to appease a group you can appease for a far smaller cost, and with a sub-par game set in the Tiberium universe. I would expect Gens2 to only see the light of day when all other C&C avenues have been blocked.

That said, it doesn't look too interesting to be fair. Bit samey.

Wow you judge a game which you haven't played yet alone officialy announced! And you've clearly never seen Louis Castle admitting that C&C is a cashcow video?

I personally find it in keeping, but as i said, the fanboys feel otherwise, and they will not be able to sell it to them. Hence, simple business sense dictates that it isn't the best to sell.

I do not understand how EA can't see the potential behind Generals, imo its much better than C&C 3 and worth a sequel

Because all the fanboys want to have a 'true' C&C, and not a game 'based upon' C&C, which is Generals. And because EA does what the fanboys wants, you get C&C4 instead of Gen2

Whats there to improve upon Generals? It had a non existing storyline (basically just terrorists causing chaos, nothing fun but some missions were okay) I wouldnt mind another gens game but I'd like to play games mostly for their story, C&C3 + KW was fun but I was dissapointed at the cliffhangers...

I think you just answered your own question there. If the storylline was crap they could improve on it and at the same time do something with the engine. Generals is popular franchise, if only in modding terms, it wouldn't be good business to avoid this line of profit, even if it's to appease the fans that would buy it. It also wouldn't do EA any PR harm either, their stock isn't exactly at cult status let's face it.

1. An actual story
2. FMVs with Burton, Lotus ,Jarmen and the generals (if they're still there)
3. The same attention to detail that CnC 3 and RA3 had...

Hopefully they'll use the lessons learned in C&C3. :|

(plus use an actual name, Tiberium Wars was the most uncreative thing ever)
