Based on requests form bugger writers on the forum I have revived Short Story Competition. I am using a basis of Overdose's suggested rules.

Word limit 3000 words, solid ceiling.
Stories must be nominated.
Stories must be new creations.
Voting will begin on 1st July 2009

Voting on:
Best plot
Best characters
Most original piece
Best overall piece

And now to plot, revise, plot again, draft, and publish. Now where on earth to start......that is the question.

I'll see what I can do. Certainly it now seems considerably better than before; an excellent suggestion by Overdose and thanks to Z-Mann for bringing it up. Hopefully I'll be able to wangle something in around mid-year exams which will be on at about that time.

Hmm...I'd like to enter...

Can it be about anything?

And I'll see if I can come up with anything new...maybe the WWII arch (I kill Hitler!)

Although a kind remark, I do believe you have lofted me to a level that I have not yet earned, for I am nothing more than a humble word smith.

Poetry and Prose are two different things. I cannot write any poetry at all, but given the right inspiration, I can whip up a mean short story.

Poetic whips can only grasp one so much, and to be fair, artistic musings are not many people's forte, for even I only dabble in the art. To write more than verse and rhyme and do it time again is where the real talent lies. I shan't stray far from my quips, quibbles, and occasional long verse prose.

Within my usual attempts at storytelling, persistence is the predicament. There is usually not an easy road leading away from that quandary.

Well, I just noticed I can't enter, because for me 3000 words is about enough time to set up the characters and the plot, but I have no end, and no needless side-tracked ramblings....which I enjoy.....

Can i get in too?

Dunno about the 3000 word limit though, rather short I think...

As long as the dark foundation of our nature, grim in its all-encompassing egoism, mad in its drive to make that egoism into reality, to devour everything and to define everything by itself, as long as that foundation is visible, as long as this truly original sin exists within us, we have no business here and there is no logical answer to our existence.
Imagine a group of people who are all blind, deaf and slightly demented and suddenly someone in the crowd asks, "What are we to do?"... The only possible answer is, "Look for a cure". Until you are cured, there is nothing you can do.
And since you don't believe you are sick, there can be no cure.

You have until the end of the month to submit an entry, so go for it!

Post it in a thread of your own in the Writings area. From there, it must be nominated to be included in the voting, but I would imagine most if not all stories will be nominated.
For there can be no death without life.

Haha, I might try, if I can think of something to write..
Are microfictions acceptable? I find myself most comfortable with those when it comes to writing prose.

You're more than welcome to write anything, you also need to have someone nominate it. I opened this up 17 days ago and haven't received a single nomination yet.
