Decided to convert this to a thread on what's going to be in L4D2.

Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the last Left 4 Dead which will contain much more content and many improvements over the last game. You can watch the teaser here.

These additions include:
  • The AI Director 2.0, which can make the map you're playing on even more random than before by cutting off certain routes and laying out several more new enemies and even changing the weather and time of the day.
  • New special and common infected, the Hazmat Zombies, the Charger, and a few special infected that have yet to be announced.
  • New weapons, the SPAS-12, three different pistols, and a silenced SMG.
  • Melee weapons, including a fire axe, a frying pan, a chainsaw, and a baseball bat.
  • New items, including incendiary ammunition and a few others that have yet to be announced.
  • Five new campaigns.
  • A real campaign, see the survivor's stories from the start of the infection to their escape.
  • Character development, see the survivors change and learn to trust each other.
  • A new gamemode that has yet to be named.
  • Witches have updated AI, and can wander around during the day. They are also more unpredictable now.
  • Possible support from other human forces, such as the military.
  • An updated gibbing system, zombies will not longer always die after they've lost their limbs.

^^ What he said.

Seems less of a sequel as it does an add on. It'd be like releasing TF2 with all the unlockables and calling it TF3.

I mirror the sentiments here. Typically something for the company that created STEAM.

Bonus points for the frying pan, though ;).

EDIT: finally found the word I was looking for.

On one hand it makes me think the same as Hobbsey, but on the other hand I do like the video ;)

What worries me is the fact that we don't even have the SDK they promised we'd have months ago for the first game yet!

but I saw the signs coming when EA started seizing the "Meet the Team" videos on Youtube as their own. Suspicions lead me to believe that EA has been stealing pieces of VALVe for quite a while and we've not been told.

Proof? If EA is stealing then I ain't suprised, Alot of companies do and it's how it works.

As for the topic at hand, I'm neutral on this, though I'll say it's a backstab for the people who recently bought L4D.

L4D can't be updated for the 360, which means they would have to release a whole new game for the 360 to add the new stuff (something with the hard drive space ect). I wouldn't be surprised if Valve wants a taste of the 360 sales as well, it just so happens that the PC owners are let down a little.

L4D in the first place was an unfinished game and to some still is, they might fix that with the new one as they don't have to work on the concepts.

Also Valve might just need some money, free stuff doesn't come cheap, i'm just glad we don't have to subscribe to Steam or something like that, that would be really awful.

According to that article there's more to it than new weapons and campaigns. The five new campaigns will feature layouts that change each time (and do so according to how well you're doing), new special infected, a new gameplay mode, new items... It's not quite downloadable content, but it's something I guess.

I meant I'm just glad it didn't have one in the first place, i doubt it would of been very popular with a subscription anyway.

It still means anyone who purchased the original L4D is getting screwed over though.

well... this is akward, it really seems that they are milking money from players (i agree all posts before me). It would be great to have some kind of discount or something if you already own L4D or why they don't just make massive update for it? (it maybe be harder than making new game, i guess.)
And i know that they will forget L4D alltogether when L4D2 comes, which ain't nice at all.
Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it... It really is worth fighting for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more.

The _only_ thing that caught my eye was those three F/A-18 Hornets. ;)

People's been raging across the globe because of L8D L4D2...unless they continue to support L4D like Blizzard does for StarCraft.

Edit: Subject was not clear for second sentence.

You can update it, but not as much as the PC version. Thats one of the reasons TF2 for the consoles haven't got the updates yet, they have to mess around with it to make it work because there is so much stuff in the updates.

Being somone who recently bought the game, I feel pretty pissed off actually.
One of the main reasons I actually bought the game was the promise of long lasting support and the rumours of new downloadables.
I guess that has gone out the window.
You almost did, didn't you?

The game was getting pretty old. You gotta admit playing the same 4 campaigns over and over again with the same boring characters, weapons and infected was getting very tiring. This should spring some life back in the game.

This.
Perhaps they were intending on making it into an update, but decided against it as the entire game is getting a facelift, they might as well make a new game and sell that.

I thought a better title though would have been Left2Die

From what I've read, they are changing the horde scenes to where you must flip a switch to activate the horde then move on to a new switch to deactivate. No more corner camping like before. The dusk atmosphere is different too. Overall it shouldn't qualify as a brand new game or at least not a full price brand new game. I wouldn't mind paying though. They're changing a lot and its due in November by the time whichi I'll probably be quite bored with the first.

EDIT:Also it has at least 5 campaigns all longer with versus and survival packaged in and a new mode to be announced.

I don't know about you, but actually I haven't found it was getting boring at all, myself. The Versus mode, of course. But what I dislike is that they slap a label of "prestige title" on it, promise TF2-like downloadables and upgrades, and what do we get? A lousy sequel for which you got to pay again. Thanks Valve, thanks very fucking much. So much for a company protecting the interests of its buyers, dammit.

Doesn't look all that new to me... just L4D, but with four new people. A handful of new weapons. Oh, and a new campaign and a new special infected.

Doesn't really look that apatizing to me.

They did one thing right in Left 4 Dead 2 though, they made the SPAS-12 semi-automatic like its real counterpart. It's funny really, the more videos I watch the less pissed I get at them because it looks fun, but at the same time I'm still mad that I have to pay $40.00 for it.
