I must ask, how, Wessley, are you getting 30 megabytes per second on Comcast?!

I can't say I really have any qualms though.

That score is in MegaBITS, you wankers. 8 bits=1 byte. So he has a /possible speed/ of 2.6 megaBYTEs per second. And you don't even have 2 MB/s. That isn't the promised 10 MB/s is it? You should sue.

Since the US is the 14th worst country for broadband internet speeds, and the 3rd for highest priced broadband service, I'm sure taking your pick there will find you the worst ISP. At least the larger coverage of FiOS looks promising though.

One more post like that and you'll be in trouble. Absolutely no need for it.

Craptastic as usual, but this might have something to do with the cheap DSL we have. Either way, it's probably nothing on the provider's end, since they have a much better average than we have a connection.

They don't know basic stuff like the difference between bit's and byte's. Its important to this thread they understand the difference.

Dude, its a word. I have a feeling that Boidy didn't see my post and then go off into a corner of his room sobbing at what a insensitive jerk I am about his confusion between bytes and bits. It helps gets the point across, which is all I'm trying to do.

No, I didn't. In fact, the information is helpful. The insult? Not so much.

I am not particularly interested in your appraisal. I have already said what will happen. You could've done in one of a million ways that didn't involve insults.

UPC. i'm not very satisfied about it because we have a 60 Megabits connection but after using the internet for about 30 minutes that speed goes down all the way to 200Kb/s , that's just lame. maybe it's the router cause that one is pretty old so . first thing i'm gonna do is call my isp and ask about it. hopefully we will get the speed we pay for

It may just be the ISP. Some ISP's do different things to control bandwidth usage, such as giving priority to their infrastructure to people who get start using the internet that day, or dropping speeds over time of use, etc. For example, Verizon's DSL is known to start a download and then drop the bandwitdth used for it depending on the download size(For instance, a download will start at 500Kb/s, but will drop to 15Kb/s rather quickly if the file size is small). Either way, calling and complaining can help, or at least do no harm. Hope your ISP isn't especially evil and that is caused by something else.

It is simply a word, my good sir, and only an insult if someone finds it insulting. I can only assume no one had their ego hurt by what a random person said on the internet, especially one relating to bits and bytes. I assume no one is THAT pathetic. I am also going to assume that you have used a pejorative once or twice in your forum career, and simply ignore you and your hypocritical argument.

However, I will admit I probably shouldn't have used a derogatory term in the context I did. Sorry. No one was actually being a wanker. It was misused. However, if someone in the future is in fact acting in a stupid way or upholding a stupid argument or idea, please don't get too angry if I call them out on it.

Excuse me while I apply the shock paddles to this topic.

Just thought I'd post this in case you wall wonder as to where I've got to, as I will likely have had a heart attack:

Apparently they upgraded the routers again, and I now get a good connection! (Admitedly not as good as Wiz's, but for me this is absurdly fast)

Does this bring an end to your internets FAJLs?

I only pay for 20, £70 for the year. I've seen it as high as 35 though.

Posted Image

Also your connection is so unpredictable AJ, I wouldn't be suprised if it went back to FAJL. They improved it once, then it went shit again, now its improved again - I sense a pattern.

Not as bad as I was expecting. I heard that Ogero has begun to slowly upgrade its 40 year old telephone lines, so hopefully within a year, the ping will be 100ms lower.

EDIT: Funny, I tested on a closer server and got this:

Meh, I guess it works, and that's all I need. Though the ping likes to get large at times.

EDIT: Speedtest too:
