For those who give feedback on all stories your vote is worth 2 votes

I also retire from running any poetry and story competitions, it is obvious I don't have the time. If someone wants to step forward for the role can they contact me directly and not in this thread.

Edit: Poll and voting instructions added.

Despite some grammar errors of past tense, I am casting my vote for Squigpie's Touch: A Visitor in the Night in the category of most original. Even though Razven's and CommanderJB's entries were equally impressive, if I'm to be obscenely honest, I could not find myself becoming engrossed in them. The way time was depicted as a person, as a living entity, was brilliant. Inner monologue, outward dialogue, and I'll leave what I posted in the thread to do the rest of the talking for me.

To JB's credit, his ending for the Phoenix was my favourite, the way he depicted the simple act of pressing a button. Elevating such a minute task, yet in the throngs of the story, such an important piece to the puzzle. No errors that I could recognize were present, but as I mentioned earlier, I found it a bit difficult to settle in to read it. This is not the fault of the writer, but more of my own. I am therefore voting the Phoenix as best overall and best plot.

Razven's entry is more gritty and "real" as it gives the reader a bit of a taste for soldier reactions to the situation and each other. Dialogue between them is a bit course, but then again, not everything everyone says is PG. So again, to Razven's credit, a well written story (minus some errors) that should prove well worth the read for anyone interested in the topic at hand. I vote Razven's as best character(s).

Well done to all the entrants, and may the best entry/writer win!

Okay, here goes:
Touch: A Visitor in the Night
Best Overall and Best Character(s)
This was an amazing tour-de-force for the reader; the most significant thing of all with this one is that I can't remember the last time I've had myself positioned that well inside someone else's head. The setting, progression and idea behind it was brilliant and the writing itself was perfectly structured and well thought out. It was substantial, a good stand-alone read, and highly interesting to read.

And The Sky Went White
Most Original
I really have little to add to what I posted in the topic; this was a unique piece that almost defies classification but is made no less beautiful for it. Extraordinary skill is demonstrated in the description contained within, and as I find it without parallel there is no way this would fail to gain my vote as most original.

Parkes and Carter
Best Plot
A compelling setting with a thoroughly interesting story behind it that has left hanging on for more as much as anything else I've read on this forum, Parkes and Carter is notable because it carries me along through the events within. If it does this I know I'm reading something with real meat in its plot, so this is an easy choice for that category.

--------------------------

Also, minor note, but would it be a good idea to add a voting poll as well, and work on the scaled voting system (i.e. votes backed up by reviews are worth more) of previous competitions? I think it would be good to get as much input from the community as possible here, and I know some people may not have the time to go through and read all of them again to write detailed reviews.

Feel free to rig up the poll JB, with the series of categories I wanted to avoid the mindless point and click.

Done - I certainly understand the motivation, but I think any step to attract votes is a worthwhile one. To all you lot out there who haven't participated yet, come on folks, take a few minutes of your time and click a button - it'll be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps it would be ideal for an announcement to be made in the proper "Announcements and Activities Section", the Writing section of FS isn't the most visited place on the forums.

Also, a reminder to the several forum members above to vote now that the poll is up.
